Hi, I recently bought a new computer and could use some help choosing the new display for it.

My pc specs are R7 9800X3D, RTX 5080, 32gigs of ddr5 ram and my current display is a 1080p 144hz IPS monitor.

However I have still yet to decide on which new display I will use for gaming, I do enjoy a lot of competitive games such as CS2 but I also like many story driven games such as cyberpunk and now I am hesitating between a 27inch 4K 240hz oled monitor or a 27inch 1440p 480hz oled monitor, I would go with the 4K monitor but I heard that if i were to go down to 1440p on that display that it would look quite bad because of the way that the pixels are laid out on the screen.

I was hoping to find some advice on which display to choose for my new PC

pretty sure modern games cant even do 240hz 1440p let alone 480 so your choice is more if you really want to lean into cs2 or some older fps titles.
also 1440p 27in is kinda not enough dpi, really need to drop it down to 24in or go with 27in 4k.
otherwise you will be staring into a screendoor

I am perfectly happy with my 31.5'' 1440p display, I have no issues with clarity or screendoor effect.

I do notice it a little bit when I sit very close to my monitor while playing Hell Let Loose but thats about it.

I am a person that is quite sensitive to these things as well.

By modern games you mean graphically demanding games?

One word of advice, 27” 4K have fun squinting for the details. But seriously, I’d recommend 1440p for a 27” display, 4K makes everything tiny (without using scaling options in Windows… which is still dreadful IMO). 32” 4K is the GOAT IMO. That’s why I have a dual 32” 4K 240hz OLED setup, it’s absolutely perfect.

Scaling i Windows works fine for 98% of programs in my experience. The ones it doesn't work well for is usually older programs or just installers, but you don't look at installers much. In my experience Linux handles it worse.

But I would personally say.

32" 4k 240hz > 27" 4k 240hz > 1440p 480hz

You could get 4K dual-mode like I did, as I wanted both 4K and 480Hz option. Yes 1440p on 4K display is not 1:1 pixel ratio reason it will not look as good. But for competitive games can be fine.

I switch to 1080p 480Hz for specific games and it's fine.

I should give scaling another chance just to see, not that I’m doubting you, but I’ve had bad experiences with Windows scaling in the past. Apple’s scaling in their OS is the best. I didn’t realize Linux was so behind the curve.
