good day dear friends, hello dear Linustech-tipp-community, 😉

I’ve been experimenting with tools like Notion, Obsidian, AFFiNE, and more lately — and I’m curious:

What tool(s) do YOU use to stay organized or manage your notes/tasks?

What inspired you to try it?

How does it help your workflow or thinking?

Would you recommend it to others in this community?

Feel free to share screenshots, setups, or your personal hacks — I’d love to see how others make use of these tools. 🛠️🧠

greetings,

Notepad, a physical notepad, folder structures + correct naming schemes and physical folder structures.

For digital I may attach a onenote/wordndoc as a quick overview as what is there and call it good.

I’m in the middle of migrating from Apple Notes to Obsidian (again). I told myself I wouldn’t keep doing this, but here we are.

I like that Apple Notes just kind of works, and despite its simple presentation, has a lot of rich features for capturing data. The main thing I don’t like, which always keeps me with one foot out the door, is that it stores its notes in a DB, which makes me not like it from the perspective of longevity. Will it be around in 20 years?

Obsidian is markdown stored in a simple folder, which can sync anywhere and any other text editor can read/write to it. Some of the plugins also let it do some nice stuff, like have a calendar with a daily note, which I really like. However, anything with media is a huge pain and it lacks the advanced capture abilities of Apple Notes.

My perfect app doesn’t exist, and I don’t think it’s actually possible. This leaves me in a constant state of dissatisfaction.

One thing I know is that I hate Notion. It’s slow and clunky. I have no idea how it got so popular. I assume every YouTube video talking about it is a paid ad. I refuse to believe all these people willingly run their life/business on that thing. I actually don’t know a single person in real life who uses it.

Pen and paper

Notebooks

Written notes

Sticky notes

And misc office supplies like binders, whiteboards (goated object) etc etc

For digital workflow its basically

the file bins I pre organise

the notes accompanying the project

references, citations and or sources

Also a clock/timer cause I dont wanna be 12-14 hours at it and I take some breaks

Anything extra entails extra work out of the ordinary so I dont bother listing 1-offs

What if YOU were cake all along?

Exactly!

I work from home often, and being able to have like 8 proper windows at once is amazing. And whenever you open that Excel document, oh man, it is pure bliss.

And gaming on this thing, yeah well, nothing comes close to it IMO 😄

The suite of kde tools included in "Kontact" - It will sync with my caldav/carddav baikal/sabre server (same as my android devices). It requires some hands on set-up (well, not if you use a containerised instance of baikal*), but after that it's your own personal "Lotus notes", "BlackBerry enterprise server" or "microsoft outlook" clone, but without the data slurping or corporate level licensing costs.

*davical works too, but pgsql is a chore to maintain compared to mysql (and clones).
