First Build - Would Like Some Insight

Go to solution Solved by podkall,

Big discount on the PSU, wow.

find these coolers:

Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE

Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE

MB:

ASRock B650 PRO RS

Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX

ASRock B850 Pro-A

And CL30 RAM instead of CL36, doesn't matter which brand, see if CL30 RAM fits your budget.

But great list.

Budget (including currency): $1,000 USD

Country: United States of America

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Light Gaming but want about 100 FPS, at least 1080p (idk if that is possible or not at this price in 2025 lol)

Other details I am upgrading from an Xbox One S so hopefully this is like a HUGE improvement, or maybe I'm just glazing the Console to PC switch experience lol.

 - I have a parts list on Newegg that I configured and wanted some insight on, this is my first build and really want to make sure I am getting everything right. There is no GPU b/c I plan to purchase a used 3060 Ti from a friend, I have seen it in person and tested it on his computer, it works just fine: https://newegg.io/f132c12

 - I am not totally set on anything other than the price give or take about $100 USD, I want it mostly black and  the more RGB the better

Have you verified case and PSU compatibility? https://www.corsair.com/ca/en/explorer/diy-builder/power-supply-units/will-a-corsair-rmx-shift-psu-fit-in-my-case/

Consider a more capable CPU cooler.

What would you recommend? Do you mean I should go with an AIO or literally just a more capable air cooler

I was thinking https://www.newegg.com/p/13C-000Y-000N0 or https://www.newegg.com/p/13C-000Y-000J3 which are less expensive and as good or better.

If you change to a dual tower cooler you should go with a low profile memory kit like (non RGB) Vengeance, Flare X5, or T-Create Expert.

I made some changes that were recommended, here is the new list (GPU is being bought from friend, 3060 Ti used, good condition for about $200)

https://newegg.io/5a18e9d

I know I recommended that MB, but it's bit white for that black case.

Get one of these NVMEs instead:

SK Hynix Platinum P41

Acer Predator GM7000

990 EVO, is PCIe 5.0, and Pro RS doesn't have 5.0 slot, and the 990 EVO only has 2 lanes instead of 4, so when it slows down to PCIe 4.0 mode, it gets half the bandwidth a normal PCIe 4.0 NVME would get.

Less expensive and will not force raising of the outer fan ~10 mm, https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-ddr5-6000/p/N82E16820374457?item=N82E16820374457.

Now I am in need of a monitor for my machine (https://newegg.io/5a18e9d)

I was able to find this ASUS TUF Gaming 27" Monitor that runs at 170Hz for $170 USD, would I be overpaying for this?

I would prefer 144Hz above and no smaller than 27", I am going for a black theme aswell

The 3060 Ti is a gpu meant for gaming at 1080P due to card being limited to 8GB of VRAM. You don't want to exceed 25" at that resolution or your screen will look stretched (pixelated). The Corsair Shift psu's are meant for fish tank cases hence the reason the cable connections are on the side of that psu.

Will the PSU still be compatible? I used the auto-compatibility feature on Newegg and it still showed up...

I assume it would be fine.

I don't plan on buying everything right away, that is why the PSU is on back order. Not sure if Silicon SSDs are the most reliable, what is the general verdict with those? Any others you would recommend?
