Howdy guys,

I've recently got my hand on a R7 3700X CPU that my company is scrapping off due to faulty cooler and the company's decision to switch to Intel based processors. I'm planning to swap it with my own R3 3100. However, since I do not have the Wraith Prism stock cooler that comes with the 3700X. My question is would it be detrimental to my CPU if I use the Wraith Stealth from my 3100 on the 3700X? I understand that it is practically not adviseable to do it as the heat generated from the 3700X far exceeds the capability of the Wraith Stealth and I do intend to get a Noctua NH-D15 on my next payday. What would you guys suggest as I need my own pc to run 24x7 until the end of the month before I can get the Noctua NH-D15 (or Thermalright PA 120, can't really make up my mind yet)?

Alternatively I could postpone replacing the CPU until I can get the Noctua NH-D15. Just checking if you guys got any better ideas.

Thanks in advance.

Thermalright PS120, the phantom spirit, $4 more than the PA and better performance than both the PA and the noctua, about $35 for it.

Dont get the NH-D15, its still more than $100, and when you have better performance for 1/3 the price, its a no brainer. Id leave the cpu swap til after the cooler arrives too if you need guaranteed uptime

System specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D [-30 PBO all core]

GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX NITRO+

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB 6000MHz CL32 DDR5

Storage: 2TB SN850X, 1TB SN850 w/ heatsink, 500GB P5 Plus (OS Storage)

Case: 5000D AIRFLOW

Cooler: Thermalright Frost Commander 140

PSU: Corsair RM850e

Case Fans: Fractal Prisma (120 x6, 140 x3)

Thanks for your reply,

I will look into the PS120. Anyway, at a quick glance I notice there are 2 types. The PS SE and a PS Evo. Any specific version you're referring to?

Thanks again

There are 3 main types PS120, which is the standard, the PS120SE which is the shorter version, by about 6mm, not a major amount, just for cases that need a touch more clearance but it has the same performance as the standard so really doesnt matter which one you go for. The EVO however has slightly nicer finishing plates on it (imo) and upgraded fans, its the most premium of the PA/PS product lines you can currently buy, but does cost a touch more too

3700x user here!

im currently using a thermal take contac 9 and am getting some pretty good temps with it. If you want really cool though, noctua, nzxt, thermalright, and Id cooling are some pretty good choices.
