5090 MSI Ventus X3 OC (the MRSP card) - Long text (sorry) so just skip

Sorry this is a novel.

So yes.. i bougtht the 5090, and i actually want to share a bit about this card.. just because i was really surprised.

But let´s get the ugly part out, i don´t like Nvidias methods at the moment, they simply suck, and i really don´t  like the pricing structure of the card, this was just a ”random thing” my son loves Doom, but his 1080TI (my old card) does not work for him.. i had a 3080 10gb i was happy with, but he needed something.. and we don´t want to just keep giving him, so he paid a bit for my card (just to show him that stuff is expensive) (½ the cheapest used one)

so i needed a new card, and i play more in AI than Games, i do game. And Vram has been an issue for a while. So that kinda talked me into the card.

I was scared about the Amp issues, so bought a new PSU (he needed my 850 he only had 650) so got a RM1000X ATX3.1 Platinium (yes apparently). I know it is not a lot but it works. Fine and my peak consumption is 640watt.

I measured the amps with an ampclamp, and it was all over the place was nervous 6 pins at 4 amp and 6 at 8 (but only 6 pins carry current, so it was me not knowing what i was measuring)

So the Ventus 3x OC MSI …. well i have had top tier cards all the way back. 3080 ASUS ROG, 1080ti ASUS Rog, 2x970 ASUS Strix and so on.. always bought the best coolers, for the noise.

And i was ready to put in the money for a Suprim or a Aorus (why not an ASUS) well the ASUS had the pin monitoring, but it was noisy, and i have a semidefective X670E board from ASUS, and an ALLY Rog that killed 2 SD Cards, and that i cannot get fixed, so kinda just lost it with Asus

.

Here in DK the Suprim cheapest place was 24000dkkr (3600 dollars) the Aorus was 22600dkkr (3400) and i was ready to push the button then i read about the Aorus master fan issue, whenever there is a fan stop, it rattles.. i don´t know it kinda annoyed me on an expensive card, also Gigabyte had the ”thin PCB” issue, so was ready on the Suprim.. (fun thing, even the cheaper Gaming OC and so on, was nearly the same price as the topend)

But they also had 50+ MSI Ventus 3X OC for 18000kr (2700) which is the MRSP in DK (i think it is 17300 the Ref is on sale for, but never has there been one) it was a LOT of money you pay for the cooler..

i tried to read about it, but it was loose words on Reddit, and many hated it, and i had a 2070S Ventus i had gotten for free, it was the biggest POS i have ever had. (other than a used 5700xt i got with the bad TUF cooler).

But..  6000kr (900bucks) saving, and i run my cards undervolted.. so i don´t know tried, i actually tried to ”remove my order ” next day, but was sent..

Got it.. and i am so happy.

My setup

7950x (running ECO 120watt) / 64GB ram / Asus TUF X670E / RM1000X ATX3.1 (2024)
Case is the Torrent with 2 200mm front fans/3 140 in the bottom (noctua) and i run a Noctua D15 air cooler for the Chip

Card at stock, not touching anything gets up to 74 degrees, i can hear the fans, but they are not annoying, that surprised me, the card is only 2kg´s compared to the nearly 4kg of the suprim (think it is 3.8kg)

Love it does not have RGB, i like the blackout but that is just me, i am getting old my son has all my RGB now.

Undervolted to 915mv i think, 2800mhz (14200 in Steel nomad) i know it can do much more, have seen 3000mhz plus, but it is fine, went from pulling 575 watt on the connector to around 400watt as i see it. (GPU-Z) then it games at 60 with fan at 30 % (quiet) it Furmarks at 68-69 at 100% GPU usage and 45-50% fan (still near silent)

i don´t run my fans in the pc at audible levels.

i have ZERO coilwhine, now that is a lie, it was what i was most nervous about, my 3080 was not bad the first many years, but in Breakout infinite it had started to squeel a bit.. this card is DEAD silent, BUT OCCT can make it ”sing” i remember the old days of 3dmark 2001 that could rune 3000+FPS.. that kinda noise. (no coil at anything else, even heaven (for Jayz)

But it is such a nice card..

I am still a bit nervous about the connecter it is hot, the cables are 50 degrees after 1 hour of stress connector 75.. but you can touch it, and it is a cheap pizza IR thermometer.. that i know overreports.

I also know the Torrent, is great for a cheaper card like this, i would not use it in a ITX build.. but with the alphacool waterblock i think it would do awesome.

So happy with it.. this surprised me.. that the ”bottom” end card (of a really expensive card type) is good.

YES i have all the ROPS.. again NVIDIA .. fix your shit..

i don´t know. I just needed to share. It was a really good experience. For something i expected nothing off, and i know when they want that much for a card, even the bottom tier should be good. But i have seen base version MSI/GIGABYTE/PNY/Zotac etc and ASUS in the old days being shit..

and i like it is not giant, i like the connector has air to bend normally..

just my little story…

i guess i could use months on overclocking and being angry at locked powerlimit, but i am old, and well. It works, it does not make noise, and it is the same GPU and RAM as so many other.

And my first step in a long time into ”lowend” versions of high end cards.

But with what i have seen i can recommend the 5090 MSI ventus 3x OC.. it was a surprise
