Are Montech PSUs any good?

Hi guys,

 

One of my UK based Go-To retailers have got the below product:

For a smidge under a £100 for a Fully Modular 1KW ATX3.1 PSU, seems like a good deal but I've only ever bought Corsair, EVGA, Antec and BeQuiet over the past 30ish years so I thought I'd check here first whether the 50 quid saving was worth it or not.

Montech Century II is a CWT model ( Made by Channel Well Technology ) same as high end Corsair PSU's.

The Montech Centry II is a A Tier PSU with good notes.

You've already gotten good advice in this thread, but I wanted to point out that like @Hinjima alluded to, power supplies are very frequently (though not always) actually not manufactured by the company whose name is on the side. Many of them are actually just re-brands of parts made by other people (so in this case, it's Montech selling a part that was actually made by CWT). There are a few major PSU sellers that actually manufacture their own units (like Seasonic and Super Flower) but they are the exception rather than the rule.

 

Furthermore, different models from the same brand may have different original manufacturers.

 

The point is, you really can't determine much if anything about a PSU's quality simply from its brand name. EVGA, for example, sells some PSUs that are excellent and some that are complete trash. You really need to look at good third-party reviews from people who know what they are doing like Aris Mpitziopoulos.
