Anyone have a build list I can use? ~$2K budget, have a spare 6900XT, want higher FPS @ 1440P

Budget (including currency): $2,000

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Warzone, Oblivion, Civ, Cyberpunk, etc

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Dont need any peripherals, have a 1440p 145hz monitor.

My current build is

Ryzen 5700X

MSI B550M mobo

Zalman S2 case

MSI 850 W PSU

AMD 6900 XT

I am going to give my pc to my lil bro besides my GPU, I will keep my 6900XT. TBH I dont see a good reason why to upgrade GPU at this moment, will see if I should in a few months. All I know is I should probably get a 7800X3D or a 9800X3D.

Any build lists would be greatly appreciated!!

Not much to post, just get the 7800X3D or 9800X3D and enjoy.  You already know how to build, so duplicate what you have for AM5.

7800X3D + 6900XT is great for 1440p.  I used that setup for a 1440p UW even.

You can save money by going 9600X or 9700X as well.

Have any case suggestions? I havent really looked at the parts market in 2+ years, not sure whats highly recommended these days

Oh i do love Fractal cases, but that component is utterly subjective.  Do you want a black box, a white fishbowl, an open sided ThermalTake case, etc?

I personally love my Fractal North XL, and my Define R6.

If you're air cooling, you have hundreds of options.  A 360 AIO will require some double checking, for example the Fractal North can't accept a 360 on top but the North XL can.

@Why_Me $900 for RX 9070 XT? That's just waste of money.

CPU upgrade will be enough

MSRP for the RX 7900 XT is $900 and going by the graph I posted the RX 9070 XT is obviously the better card.

OP gaines 36+ fps more on average with that card alone, not accounting for the boost he's going to get from the 7800x3D. That and his brother will be kissing his arse for at least the next two years.

30% upgrade for $900 on avg is quite meaningless imo.

100 vs 130FPS is not a big difference on avg.

Also avg from all games is not a good metric for performance either.

Could also get 7700(x)/9700x which essentially is 7800x3D without the extra 3D cache.

Could also just find decent used GPU with like 10-16GB VRAM or something.

$2000 USD budget and a board that doesn't include PCIe 5.0 for the gpu?

Better thermals than the Assassin. Same cooler as the ARGB version.

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/thermalright-phantom-spirit-120-review

Unlike the Pop Air, this case includes PWM fans meaning the fan curve can be adjusted not to mention it's ARGB and not RGB.

Yeah.

Remember when 4.0 was fastest and 4090 was fine running on 3.0?

How come suddenly 50-series "need" 5.0? The answer is they don't.

903 can also be PWM adjusted if you re-plug the controller to MB, at least I think.

This recent generation of AMD and Nvidia cards support PCIe 5.0. Each new generation of gpu's is going to use more bandwidth (future upgrades). For $30 more you get PCIe 5.0, WiFi 7, Bluetooth and a 5G LAN.

Yeah, no, I doubt next gen mid-range will be faster than 5090, and 5090 doesn't need 5.0 to stretch it's legs.

I know..

I can do aesthetics too, fishtank with RGB:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/6VdY74

  • AIO top mount
  • 1 Fan exhaust
  • 6+ fans side intake and bottom intake

Final build should look similar to this:

  • Lian-Li O11 Vision can't mount fans on top of the case, there's glass.
  • O11 EVO can
