So whenever I get a new PC, I turn my old one into an HTPC. So right now, I have my main rig (5900x, 4070, etc), then I have my livingroom HTPC, and my bedroom HTPC.

I currently have an Intel 2600, with a 750ti and 16gb of DDR3 RAM that is just sitting in a closet right now from before I knew how to build my own PC.

I hate throwing working things away, so I thought maybe I could turn it into a home server or NAS or something, and started researching it. But after reading a few discussions on the topic, it sounds like it would be cheaper for me to use my old Ryzen 1700 (that was replaced by my livingroom HTPC's new CPU) and get a new MB, as it's power efficiency would pay for the new mobo and save money in the long run.

So now I'm back where I was, wondering what I can do with these old components. They feel like they're too old to gift to someone I know.

WWYD with it?

Put it up for sale cheap or gift it to someone who is interested in light gaming like Minecraft.

A intel 2600 and 750 Ti will run minecraft really well.

With old hardware like this I always try to find a single parent that needs some help.

A PC like this that can run simple games would go a long way for a kid in a poor situation.

If you don't know anyone in particular, most cities have outlets than make older computer available for low income individuals at VERY low prices, sometimes as low as $20.  As long as it can run Windows 10, they may be interested.

Oh that's good to know. I'll see if we have one around here. Thank you

Its nice to know that your old 'useless' hardware can go to someone who will absolutely cherish it!  And for them, its not useless at all.. It might be exactly what someone needs to come home to after a day at school, instead of nothing.

I have been in that situation.

Good luck!
