PC waking up from sleep when I turn on the light

Go to solution Solved by JonS77,

This could be due to HDMI-CEC. Could also be some wake on lan or USB but I put my money on the HDMI-CEC since you say it triggers with electricity.

Try disabling HDMI-CEC on your TV for your PC/monitor or all device

Try enabling "Only allow a magic packet to wake up the computer" on all your USB devices in device manager in your WIndows.

Try disabling all Wake on LAN/USB options on Bios, also disable all resume by PCI-e options you can see. Sometimes some boards have more than one wake on PCI-e or LAN option. Like my MSI board has one wake on lan option and one "Resume by onboard lan PCI-e" or something like that. Also Turn off fast boot.

One of these must be your answer.

I have very bizarre situation which im not sure how its happening or why. I noticed that whenever that my pc is asleep and someone turns on the light and the ventilation in my bathroom, the pc boots up. My only guess is that they are going into the same fuse and somehow thats happening. Maybe a faulty fuse, but I wanna check if someone has any idea why its happening.

A PC will wake when it sense input from an HID (Human Interface Device) such as a mouse or keyboard.

My theory is your optical mouse is on something like a glass table or semi-transparent that lets light in. When the light turns on, the mouse optical sensor is picking it up? Or is this light in a completely different room where the PC is at doesn't get illuminated?

They are in separate rooms. It is close by but i don't see how that light is different from the light in my room and also it is happening even when the door is closed. Edit: Also the desk is made of wood so i don't think the light gets to the sensor at all.

Try changing to hibernation instead of sleep state:

Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\System Settings

It turned out it was the usb options that were causing this. Im not sure why its related to the electricity as the power goes though the pc's psu and that should be regulating the power. Is it possible that its a faulty psu? Or more likely just a Windows quirk that for some reason remains as is?
