Just wondering if there are any fellow collectors. Feel free to show off your collection! This is also a good place to show off your latest retro game finds and discuss some of your favorites as a kid. Be sure to follow CS and be kind and respectful when discussing games!

This last Christmas I finally put out my collection. About 300 games across 40 years. So Nintendo games NES to the switch. (Some Sega in there as well).

They were all in storage boxes, but if people can put up plates as decoration, then I can put out nice looking game boxes.

I put the amibos in front, to show them off as well. It looks nice and clean, and is on some nice ikea cabinetry.

On Friday's I put out one game to showcase it, as its a talking point when people come over. Seems to go over quite well.

We also have all the systems out as display peices under the TV. Video is hooked up, not the power bricks. To hopefully save the power bricks and systems. I have every major Nintendo console except the virtual boy, maybe someday...

I do have about 50 PC game boxes as well, but they are in the office and have been up for many years. I tossed a bunch of PC game boxes years ago, and regreat it. Should have just collapsed them for later. Ahh well, I kept the ones I liked.

To answer your question, yes there are some collectors out here.

When I was a youngun, these 'retro' games were brand new, state of the art games.  I kept them because I still love to play them.  I also love the art of the boxes and manuals that came with them. Some even came with posters, clothing patches, stickers, etc. I used to have more games, but I have traded and sold some of them over the years.

I also have a lot of DOS and early Windows compatible PC games, even more than are shown here. The rest are in storage.

Just a couple of the more important things. Have other stuff, mostly GOATED games, and childhood games not pictured. A bunch of XBOX controllers, and previous gen games.

I have like 15 different Skyrims, including digital PC versions. lol.

Also a full collection of Tokyo Xtreme Racer/Shutokou Battle. I go to Japan and drive cars on the actual Shuto Expressway, which the games have mapped out turn by turn.

Wouldn't say I'm a collector as such, more that I happen to get most of these games while they were current. Does that show my age?

I still need to set up what would now be a retro console gaming area.

I'm afraid I don't have anything all that "photogenic" to share (I actually played my retro games to the point that the boxes, manuals, and often the 5 1/4" disks they were stored on typically fell apart), but I'm a long-time PC gamer.  Played games back when you had to program them, yourself, from the manual ("TI-99/4A Games" for the eponymous TI-99/4A, "Basic Computer Games" or similar titles for the Commodore 64).  Bought a ton of games for my Commodore 64 (memorably Microprose Games like Red Storm Rising and F-19 Stealth Fighter, Infocom titles like Deadline, "educational" games like the Carmen Sandiego games (I still own and regularly use a desk encyclopedia that came with one of those), and so forth).  On the PC, I played things like the original Sid Meier's Pirates!, Tracer Sanction, the King's Quest series, the Space Quest series, the Quest for Glory series, Ancient Art of War (and the Ancient Art of War at Sea), and so on.  With few exceptions, when I can get them to run on a modern system (thank you DosBox and/or Gog.com), I continue to pull these games out and dust them off now and then... (I still have yet to "Win" Deadline, and refuse to use a walkthrough to complete it.  It is my great gaming white whale... though I usually only give it one try a year).

Those are the highlights of what I consider my favorite "retro" games... though my absolute favorite was Starflight 2: Trade Routes of the Cloud Nebula (sequel to the original Starflight, which is credited as an inspiration for both the Star Control and the Mass Effect series).  So much so that I contributed a short story to an anthology (anthology as in short story collection, not anthology in the gaming definition) set in the Starflight universe, released on its 35th anniversary.
