Hello, I am looking to upgrade my laptop's nvme to 2tb and am stuck between options. My laptop is hp victus 15 fb2082-wm model. The two options are these: https://ayoubcomputers.com/corsair-mp600-pro-2tb-m-2-nvme-pcie-x4-gen4-ssd-f2000gbmp600phxt/ and https://ayoubcomputers.com/kingston-2000gb-nv3-m-2-2280-nvme-ssd-snv3s-2000g/ . From some research I saw the nv3 is untrustworthy and worse, but does anyone know if that matters? Also, does the heatsink in the corsair one fit in my laptop or is it fine if I end up having to remove it? My options are limited due to availability in my area, so I am stuck with these two.
thanks

I believe it was the NV2 which didn't have a great rep for quality. The NV3 is better on that front, boasting a somewhat decent warrenty and mean time between failures. That said, the NV3 does still have variable hardware, so you might get worse stats than advertised because they shadow-swapped the chips.

As for the MP600 Pro, it doesn't have variable hardware so what you see is what you get. However, the endurance is a little underwelming compared to the advertised stats on the NV3, but it does get the same 5 year warrenty. What you do get for the extra money is better initial speeds, although the extend to which this matters is questionable.

Both suffer from weak sustained performance, so if you are going to be writing large amounts of data frequently, look elsewhere.

Overall, If your are going to store anything on the laptop that you can't afford to lose: I'd suggest finding another alternative, or setting up a backup. If your data is unimportant, or if you keep backups, I think I'd go with the NV3 as both drives have 5 year warrentys and I don't feel the extra cost is justified for speed alone.

Common build advice:

1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

NV3 has variable hardware, and at first it was good TLC DRAMless, but now it’s mid and low DRAMless QLC (of course, you could get lucky and get the better version, but we all know it is unlikely.)

2TB have 640TBW and 3 years of warranty, and can have:

Phison E27T + Kioxia BiCS6 TLC 1Tb ( good DRAMless TLC )

SM2268XT2 + Micron B58R TLC 1Tb ( good DRAMless TLC )

SM2268XT2 + Kioxia BiCS6 QLC 1Tb ( mid DRAMless QLC )

TenaFe TC2201 + Kioxia BiCS6 QLC 1Tb ( entry/mid DRAMless QLC )

TenaFe TC2201 + YMTC QLC 1Tb X3-6070 ( entry/mid DRAMless QLC )

The Corsair MP600 pro is one of the better PCIe 4.0 SSD TLC with DRAM, has 1400TBW and 5 years of warranty.
and even good heatsink already on it.
it’s on Phison E18 + DDR4 + 96l TLC Micron NAND

it’s a good Ssd on good components, I would have no problem having it in my PC.

actually, the F2000GBMP600PHXT is the Walter colled version of it, with upgraded 176l TLC microna NAND, it’s actually even better, and have very good susteined write performance.
and you can just remove the Walter block, if you have your own heatsink ( and sell it ), or just leave it on ( still better then naked Ssd )
