Don't know what headphones to buy on a budget

Go to solution Solved by seth_green,

So overall I kinda forgot about this thread I opened, but I just went ahead and brought the sennheiser HD 400S, I'm not sure if it was a good purchase or not, but I'm hoping they were a good purchase, If I deem them unfit I might come back here with a higher budget, until they arrive and I test them I guess this question was answered? unsure until testing done.

after testing, They sound good, fit my ears (just!) and are overall really nice, thank you all for helping me try to find a pair, I appreciate your time and effort

Hi, I want a pair of headphones that fit within my budget and fits very specific needs which really suck to find for knowing mostly every one that matches are up to like $200+ and more bucks

I have about $73 AUD available (I know that is really small, I want my mouse I want to buy though and only have $150 overall.)

1.  I need the headphones to be wired, I don't have a bluetooth card in my pc and I feel wired is cheaper/better quality

1.1 I need the wire to be over 1.2M... anything higher is better especially if the wire is on the right side instead of the left side if the headset

2. I want headphones that have good sound quality and surround sound if possible, I don't personally care about what kind of driver it is as long as its 50mm(if that's loud I guess? I don't want quiet headphones and I hear 40mm is really quiet)

2.1. I also want headphones that have what I think highs/mids/lows are to be normal? I want some bass but not so much it would dominate over sounds

3. I want comfy ear material, I don't personally mind if I need to buy pads to swap them out or something

4. I want material that wont break super easily or is known to break, I've seen some headsets where they have re-occurring issues

uh just a few pre answers

I do not own a AMP/DAC thingy

I am still kind of new to computers and such

I am unsure if my pc has a sound card or something, this is all that is says: 7.1 CH HD Audio with Content Protection (Realtek ALC892 Audio Codec)

I Don't need the needs above to be 100% exact, if something is slightly over my budget or isn't to what I want above that is fine, I'm not super picky just a bit paranoid with money

I will be mostly playing games, listening to music, and youtube from time to time if thats also needed.

I am going from turtle beach recon 70's.... which have a short cable, sound poor and dont have any surround sound to hear footsteps in my game which im fixating on atm.

please let me know what your suggestions are, and if something is above my budget ill go see if I can go and see if anyone has recommendations for cheaper mice...

also sorry if this is lengthy.

Considering IEMs can get loud enough to damage your hearing, I highly doubt driver size has anything to do with loudness.

Do you mean a more reference, flat sound signature? There is no "normal".

Does it need to have a mic?

I dont like the look if IEM's and they hurt my ears after a short time.  I just want headphones if that works, but I'm not sure what terms there are for the high/mids/low thing, I just know they seem to come up a lot in specs of headphones, and not sure what the difference is, if you could kinda dumb it down for me that would help a lot, I know jack about audio stuff

also I dont need a mic, I have one already. but If a mic is included I dont mind

Frequencies basically and how loud they make sounds of certain frequencies

To make it an analogy for you think of it like food where you got meat spices and veggies

Some like more meat, some like more salt and oregano and some like more veggies

There isnt really a standard as diff ppl enjoy diff varations cause others like more bass while others dont

For 75ish AUD you aint got a lot of options if any for decent headphones however there are these

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/3wNp99/koss-ksc75-headphones-ivg-kssksc75

I'd say they are your best bet otherwise gaming headsets and make due with them sadly

What if YOU were cake all along?

Lows - bass

Mids - sound in the midrange

High - treble

If you really want to learn about it, there's loads of YouTube videos.

The Fiio/Jade Audio JT1 is worth a look. The Sony MDR-7506 is another option, and there's the AudioTechnica M20/30/40/50 depending on what you can find them for. I'd also post the question in some of the audio sections of Reddit.

What the coleagues have said + my take would be the Koss Porta Pro or the Fiio JT1.

the koss porta pro's look really uncomfy, the tops of my ears where it rest are sensitive for some reason even by rubbing them hurts, and I may buy the Fiio JT1, except thats $69 USD, which is like around like $160... I dont even have that much but the koss porta pro's look, alright I guess? They look like if I accidentally yank them too hard or fall off my desk to the carpet or even look at them they will shatter

They are not that breakable. And they offer a great sound signature.

What do you mean by $69 US equals to $160? CAD or AUD? Some other currency?

Superluxx HD 668b was popular for a time.

they are around 160 AUD, and the superluxx might be a good choice, I'll consider them if I dont really get any other contenders

Well, you can check the HyperX Cloud (Pro, 2, Core, X, Alpha) but not the Stinger variants.

Or the Takstar Pro 80, Pro 82.

But your budget seems so low that only decent budget options would be IEMs like the (for gaming) amazing Tripowin Vivace.
