Hi,

I've just come across the upcoming Asus ROG XG Mobile eGPU and I'm quite interested in it,.now that they are using Thunderbolt 5 instead of their proprietary connector. I've planned to upgrade my laptop next year and I can't find any clear information online about whether or not Panther Lake laptops will support Thunderbolt 5. Maybe it's just too early to ask, but I'm seeing that not all Arrow Lake mobile CPUs are compatible and some say that only desktop Panther Lake CPUs are certain to be compatible.

So how likely is it that mainstream Panther Lake laptops support Thunderbolt 5?

Thanks

We have already seen Thunderbolt 5 but idk why manufacturers aren't implementing it. Probably the cost or advanced technology needed.

That is a mobile 5090 GPU that too only up to 150 watts. I believe it would run fine on Thunderbolt 4 as well.

Microsoft owns my soul.

Also, Dell is evil, but HP kinda nice.

I'm seeing that it will be compatible with Thunderbolt 4 as well but the performance will likely be worse considering the difference in bandwidth. It's fine if you are using your current laptop, but it would suck to buy a brand new laptop just to be bottlenecked. As far as I can see, only some high end Arrow Lake laptops support TB5, so that's a bummer.

Regarding the eGPU, I do wish they had increased the TDP, even above the recommended 150W to see what this card has inside!
