Started happening on my new PC build.

Specs:

  • Ryzen 7 9800x3d
  • ASUS TUF RTX 5080
  • 64 GB RAM
  • Lian Li Edge 1300W PSU
  • Windows 11

Monitors/TVs

  • Samsung Odyssey G7 1440p 240hz (Desk)
  • Viotek 1440p 144hz (Desk)
  • LG G4 4K 144hz (TV)

When I swap from my 2 desk monitors to my TV, and back, one of my monitors (normally the secondary monitor) begins to flicker to a black screen for about 1 second every 1-5 seconds. This continues endlessly until I restart my PC completely. Then it's fine, until I swap to the TV again, and then back to the desk, where it starts all over again.

I had seemingly fixed it after upgrading to DisplayPort 2.1 cables to the two monitors (my TV is HDMI), but after 3 weeks or so it started again. I'm on most recent Nvidia drivers and have been updating them fairly consistently as new ones get released.

When I use the desk, the TV is completely disconnected in windows settings, and likewise my two desk monitors are completely disabled when using the TV.

Things I've ruled out

  • Monitors
    • Messing with display settings when it first started caused the primary monitor to be the one flickering. So it's not a single monitor failing.
  • Cables
    • Happened on my old DisplayPort cables, bought new ones that are 2.1, still happens (after a few weeks of not)
