LTT Store or I Fix It Store Question.

Go to solution Solved by AndrewAsd,

I'd choose ifixit, just based on their shorter delivery time, and better overall price and value with the additional prying tools and tweezers. Depending on where you live I've heard of shipping taking months from LTT. Even being generous and taking the minimum shipping times I'd be looking at 2 weeks vs 1 business day.

I’m gonna be doing some upgrades to my laptop. And I’m trying to decide on a tool kit to buy. I’m looking at two particular kit one from LTTstore.com and the other one from I fixit.com.

The LTT store I am looking at the Precision Multi-Bit Screwdriver & Bit Set. Im also looking at the iFixit Pro Tech Toolkit as well. Since it will be used on both on my laptop upgrades now and later on rebuilding a new computer after mine caught fire a week ago. What is the better option for a tool kit you think? Like LTT best but Ifixit has other tools included that LTT doesn’t like spudgers to open laptop shell.

what laptop do you have? what are you upgrading? if it's a newer one that's put together with sticky tape? and similar instead of screws I would go with the ifixit otherwise I would go with the precision screwdriver and bits from LTT. I have taken apart and reassembled a few older laptops with only a Philips and flathead screwdriver.

edit: found your laptop in your profile.

Whichever, I opened laptops and built PCs with $5 kit even.

What I felt really helped using LTT driver is the strong magnet, and that's pretty much it. But yea, that's a minor "problem" that can be solved easily.

Though on some situation the extra stronk magnet made things a bit annoying.

If you want to save some money, ifixit is cheaper, at least up to some variant.

Spudgers, plastic pick, etc can just buy real cheap one, I know I did. Mine still being used up until today, and it's been used to pry open various things aside from laptop and phone. 😂

Harbor freight is your friend. I’ve used their plastic automotive trim removers for so much random stuff, they’re great for scraping or prying things that you don’t want to damage. Harbor freight is also a good place to buy things like that where the build quality doesn’t really matter. Heck I used a free precision screwdriver kit I got with a coupon from there to build my own PC.

Yep, same here.

Nowadays I prefer using this:

Yeah, I'm really thinking to buy one too.

Seems more helpful when I need to loosen/tighten lots of tiny arse screws

Yeah my laptop is the HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk2003nr (7G725UA). I used to have a newer tech tool kit from my old 2011 MacBook Pro. I cant seam to find it now though

probably should specified I'm in Oklahoma USA, so tariffs are a concern. Other things id use the kit for is rebuilding my main desktop tower, and i also have a steam deck oled 1tb. For example, at some point id like to add hall fx trigers and joysticks to the steam deck. I also have a xbox one s that just broke and hoping to fix. My ps5 disk console still works but in the future repairing could be needed.

but kinda sounding like the ifixit pro kit might be worth it with shipping delays. Think the pro kit has a antistatic wrist band as well.

NGL, If I were you, i'd just buy the Mako, or Manta even if I feel like having 2 drivers and a crapton more variety of bits.

Then buy those spudgers, tweezer and pick somewhere else cheap. Throw in antistatic wristband if you really need it.

Because IMO. $35 for those stuffs is kinda blergh.

That way your money is mostly used for stuffs that are less "disposable".

I don't own ifixit ones, but yeah almost no difference between my $1 and $10 antistatic, though I barely use it now.

And the noname prying tool kit I bought for like $2 held on even after being repeatedly used to open hot-glued stuffs. But in the event they don't, it's dirt cheap enough that I won't feel bad about breaking it or throwing it away. 😂

if i went a generic brand i found a kit on Amazon called STREBITO. I'm including the link "HERE" so people can advice if its any good of a 142-Piece kit at a lower cost.

Thanks in Advanced.

I'd stick with the Ifixit. I have both the Mako and the Manta driver sets, and can say they are amazing. They are durable, high quality, and reasonably priced.

Edit: For computers and other electronics, the Mako set will be better.

See if your local Walmart has the "Hyper Tough 77 Piece Precision Tool Kit" in stock. I keep one of these around at work just in case I need to get into a phone or something and my LTT Precision Screwdriver is still out in the car. Fit and finish isn't the best, but it's good enough (especially for the price).

You should be able to tear down most modern laptops with just a #0 and a #00 Philips driver, so anything you find that includes those bits should get the job done.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

just a update. my mom saw how badly depressed i was n bought me ram for my laptop and a bunch of iFixit Tools to do my repairs. I'm listing them below. these will be used to upgrade my HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk2003nr (7G725UA) gaming laptop. sadly my cat nocked on the floor n managed to put a small crack in the shell around one the exhaust vents. from what i can tell i don't need to0 mess with that part of the shell at least.

i still need 2.5" SSD for the laptop but looking at the Crucial BX500 4TB for that. for capturing and editing VODs and game storage space since stock NMVE is only 512gb. open to suggestion on 2.5" drives too.

I'm going to be posting a question for a new main pc build question in the pc chasse/case section. i have a idea but want opinions.

late to the party but you can't go wrong with either one. I would just try and avoid a cheap kit, as will most tools you get what you pay for. I bought an ifixit kit probably 16 years ago and still have it. Quality bits are worth it. I did buy the LTT kit when they ran the sale on  it and ordered one for my brother. I wouldn't worry about the plastic spudgers, just get a handful on amazon.

Just wanted to post that link to the X/Twitter post of mine showing the installation of my new ram into my HP gaming laptop. Went from a single stick 8 GB 3200 MT/s DDR4 to 64 GB (2X 32 GB) 3200 MT/s DDR four.

But here is the “LINK“ for anyone that wants to see the pictures of the tools they used.
