Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): hi i am fairly new to pc gaming and building my second pc. I have done my due diligence but the gpu market is so shit rn that I dont know what to do. But magically today ebay showed me a ryzen 9 9950x3d for only $500 (aud) I was planning to get most of my parts now except the gpu but this seems like an incredible opportunity. Should I buy it?

Lets start you off with a basic question

Are you gonna do anything that will ACTUALLY makes use of that 9950x3d or are you just experiencing a sort of FOMO ie you are salivating at the thought of having it?

Probably the later and wonderfull deal or not, if you arent gonna use it for smt that needs it/actually benefits a tangible amount from it its money wasted/not that well spend (also doubt the validity of the seller considering the going price of it according to PCPP is nearly 3x that price)

An ACTUALLY valid and good option for you is a more mid tier CPU like a 7600 or 7500f which is 3/5s or 1/2 the price and a b580 which is still reasonably priced

So this if you go full atx

This if you wanna go mATX to cut some costs

TL DR focus on what is gonna make the most of your budget not what you just like the idea of

If you disagree with anything I've said tell my why with logic not feeling

If you wanna correct smb do so with logic not anecdotes and feelings

Hi did you buy the 9950X3D for $500? Here's a build without factoring that in just starting with $1500AUD

I would like to spend more and for an RX 6950 XT instead, it's about a 30% jump in performance for $300 more, but the rest of the build is a solid minimum everywhere else so no costs left to save, if you go AM5.

AM4 you might be able to, if you went for a 5600
