Hello everyone,

I am looking to replace my 10 years old setup (GTX 970 4GB, i7-4470, no SSD, 2x4G DDR3).

I do not care much about the looks, and I do not need more than 60fps in recent games (I can even probably live with 30).

As I do not plan on upgrading again within the next 10 years, I was pondering wonder whether I should go with an AM4 platform, considering that AM5 will be EOL in 10 years anyway.

I considered building around an Arc B580, as it seems like good value for the kind of relatively moderate performance I am looking for. As an alternative, I also considered a Steam Deck, which I would dock for some games, but it seems like it is not really suited for recent games on very high/Ultra settings (I have read about people struggling with Oblivion remastered on ProtonDB).

Any advice is welcome, in particular regarding the choice of GPU, CPU and AM4 vs AM5 (I did not really consider intel but open to it as well). Is 16GB RAM adequate for playing recent titles or is 32GB a must? Thank you in advance for your help!

Budget (including currency): max 1000eur, ideally around 700

Country: Belgium

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

Gaming only, recent titles but not too demanding.

Minimum: 1080p Very high/Ultra, between 40-60fps

Nice to have: 1440p Very high, 60fps

I would like to play BG3, Oblivion remastered, CS2, W40k rogue trader.

Other details:

I hope to reuse the power supply from my old setup (Corsair CX600M, 600W), and I already own a monitor and peripherals.

If that CX-600W is half as old as the rest of your system then toss it.

Keep your eyes peeled for the reviews of these two cards (RTX 5060 / RX 9060 XT).

32GB is becoming/become normal but i wouldnt say it is a must yet but two sticks of ram is better than four (imo) so it makes sense just to get 2x16gb instead of 2x8

I wouldnt buy a new AM4 system today althought you can achive 1080p Ultra 60fps with a 5600-5800x3d and a new gpu

What resolution is your monitor?

I was just going to say 9060xt is where i would be aiming for in performance and price.

Yes, does not sound like a bad idea 🙂

It is a 4K monitor I got from work, but I do not plan on cranking the resolution that high. It's probably not well suited for games anyway, but I do not really have an eye for latency and such things.

Based on both your replies, I will probably wait a little for reviews of the RTX 5060/RX 9060 XT and go with either a 12400F (I actually bought one recently for a NAS build) or a 5600. The suggested build from @Why_Me is right in the price spot I would like to hit.
