I'm getting ready to go back to college for a year, and am looking for a laptop that can get solid performance in most modern AAA games at 1080p. My first thought was just to grab a nice Razer Blade, but not for $5000. $2000 Canadian is the most I am willing to spend as I only need it for a year before I return home to my desktop with dual monitors. Oh damn, can I survive a year with only a single monitor?

There are a few options. ASUS is still selling the 2024 TUF Gaming A14 and A16 with RTX 4060/4070 GPUs and the Ryzen 9 AI HX 370, which looks like a good blend between speed and portability.

I would also look at the Lenovo Slim 5 Gen 9 AMD. The CPU is a bit behind (Ryzen 7000-series) but it has strong graphics and otherwise should be up to snuff.
