used Intel PCIE drives

Hello,
I found some decently priced Intel PCIE drives on ebay with ~53k hours on them. its a 400gb gen3 drive for ~50$. Ive heard that intel drives are pretty reliable. Would buying one be a decent idea?
(My NAS motherboard doesn't have m.2 NVME slots, only a PCIE 16x slot. I have considered PCIE to m.2 adapters, but I'm trying to consider all my options.)

50$ can get you a terrabite new almost so yeah no bad deal. Just get some sata drives.

Probably just get a SATA SSD for most uses. 

 

Those older drives are also typically pretty power hungry.

my nas is running an a8-4555m, 16gb of ram and currently 8tb of storage + 32gb msata boot drive.
My PSU has the headroom for a power hungry drive anyways

I'd just go with a SATA drive if it was me.

Just get a sata ssd heaps AMAZING quality ones for 50$. There is no reason to get the old intel drive when a 870 evo can be had for the same. Besides that cpu is sooooooooooooo beyond weak to ever even use a sata ssd at full speed.

Currently using it for mass storage, but I'm planning on going 10gbe later this year so I wanted some decently fast storage.

Would this be a cache or a seperate SSD only pool?

 

I'd typically get more HDDs for a faster main pool instead of SSDs for most uses.

Be aware that this cpu will most likely be too slow to allow such high speeds. Sounds silly but it is a thing

I know, so far its been fast enough. If it does end up being a problem I can always get a different board since the motherboard I'm using was only 35$ with the CPU installed.
