So far, I have hated every built-in Smart TV” OS and the performance of the apps on them. I use an AppleTV after rejecting Fire, Chromecast, Roku, and … oh some other POS. AppleTV gives me the best experience in a home theater environment.

So… who actually LIKES the built-in Smart TV they own and use, and what do you have? I am in the market for a new TV and I’d LOVE to dump the AppleTV and not replace it.

thanks!

For me, the "best" Smart TV OS was a Windows XP Media Center Edition computer connected to a TV with a USB IR Remote Control dongle. In other words, there is no best Smart TV OS for my needs anymore - they all have their benefits AND shortcomings. That said, I've settled on Roku hardware for the last almost 10 years only because it's the most convenient way for me to take a small device already logged into my accounts with me on my travels.

Yeah I dig that portability factor of some solutions.

All of my TVs run Android TV, some of them have it built in, and some use an external box, but anyhow they all work fine.
Snappy enough, all streaming services & IPTV apps that I use work properly, there is a native WireGuard VPN client for Android TV, I can sideload apps that can't be found in the Play Store (like SmartTube), or even push apps I personally make via Wireless ADB to them.

So, if you don’t mind sharing, can you name one of your tvs with the built-in android?

for me it would be LG webOS, one of the better versions of high quality yet not so intrusive TV OS out there.

HOWEVER, if you don't want a high end TV then a Vestel TV can work just fine (Bush, JVC and the likes) those are standard TVs with "smart" built into them, but they are very much low end TVs and not worth the time to spend money on them IMO
