Im putting together an old system for my parents and I have all the parts I need but the power supply, so I would be greatful for any suggestions at to what watt power supply to get for it. Thank you

specs:

I7-8700k

no gpu

atx mb

16gb ram

one ssd

one hdd

couple fans

would a 350 watt work?

a 350w would work but most 350w power supplies are absolute garbage.

I can recommend a MSI A550BN, its way overkill in terms of power but its the cheapest PSU I can recommend that is reliable and safe.

Most other cheap 300-450w PSU's from companies like Apevia or NOX are just a fire hazard.

what if the motherbourd has 8 pins for the cpu but the powers supply I get only has 4?

That is fine.   You can use a EPS 4 pin on the motherboards 8 pin, just put it on the right side of the 8 pin.  It should be keyed so it will only go in one way.

Since you probably are not overclocking or running anywhere near max load, this is completely fine for the 8700k.

Make and model of the 350w you are looking at? This system needs barely any power BUT that doesn't mean you can get like a 20$ psu as that is super low quality stuff and can still kill the system. Cheap psu's that are good like a ab550 from msi are readily available
