I remmeber somewhere after android 5 (maybe 7?) it was possible to merge the sd card with phone storage in a single storage entity.

Is that no longer possible with Android 15?

Will i have to manually transfer data from my phone storage to my sd card using a file explorer?

That sound like an utter disaster of an idea.

SD cards are not anywhere close to as reliable as a proper internal storage chip, merging would be like doing a dire version of RAID1.

In the unlikely event that this is actually possible, I would strongly recommend against it.

What you may have seen before is using SD cards as "seamless" extra storage for photos, etc.

I believe you are thinking of adoptable storage, IIRC that was dropped around Android 12 (unfortunately).

I believe there were a couple custom ROMs that held onto it for a version or so, but it's pretty much dead at this point.

Adoptable storage's main draw was originally to have extra space to install apps to (in my opinion). So you could install apps to your SD card. It works pretty seamlessly in earlier versions of Android. In later versions, it got pretty buggy with some apps just refusing to function if they where on the SD card.
