Should I update BIOS on my Asus mobo?

Hello there!

 

I have an Asus Tuf Gaming B460-Plus motherboard, with BIOS version 1620. I have updated it last year, but I noticed there is a new version numbered 1631.

Changelog says: Improve system stability.

I always have a fear of updating the BIOS, however I like to keep my stuffs up to date.

What is your opinion (especially if you have this BIOS installed :D), worth take the risk and update it, or leave it alone if I don't have problems with my computer?

I wouldn't.  It's a generic changelog, and AM4 is mature enough that nothing is going to drastically affect something outside of an exploit fix or a new CPU support.

 

I don';t update my AM4 machines at all anymore, personally.

If you were on a much much older BIOS version I would say Yes.

Unless you are experiencing stability issues or any problems I would say that updating is not worth it.

 

Keep BIOS Version 1620 if you want.

 

I usually stay on quite old BIOS versions for a while if my system is running fine.

If your PC runs fine and you're that wary of doing the update, just leave it as-is. You're reasonably up to date, and it sounds like there were only a few minor bug fixes since the version you're running now.

 

Honestly - and this is very "do as I say not as I do" - , I never actually update the BIOS without a solid material reason for doing so. (For example, updates that address serious problems like the 14th gen power limit, or add features like support for a new generation of CPUs.)

It is Intel motherboard, B450 is the AMD one as far as I know.

Yeah, sorry.  Same deal though, old enough to be mature and recent enough BIOS.

Only time I update the BIOS myself is in 1 of 2 scenarios.

 

1: Brand new system being built, ill update to the latest available.

 

2: I start having troubles/instability that all other methods of troubleshooting have failed to resolve.

 

The BIOS is one of those things that if its not broke, don't try and fix it.
