So, today i was dumbfounded when i checked my bios version and somehow i missed one. So i updated to the newest motherboard bios, but now.. my 5800x3d is no longer boosting to 4450mhz in games. It is however in benchmarks like cinebench. However before it also did it just fine in games. Like the oblivion remaster. And i cannot for the life of me figure out why it doesnt do it now.

Previously i simply had it on combo strike 3 (So -30) and set the limits to the motherboard that was enough. But now that didn't work. And it only boosts to 3900-4000mhz.

Things i tried:

I reset the bios. Didn't work.

Reinstalled chipset drivers. Didn't work.

Verified the settings did apply, they do. Although ryzen master doesnt give me the curve optimiser option in that program and it says that it is off even though very clearly its on as it works just fine in cinebench.

Also isnt cooling issue as the cpu is running at 60~ degrees.

And its only drawing 40w.

And so I come to this forum to ask for help. Cause I cannot for the life of me figure out which setting I may have missed.

And to make it easier on you guys so you dont need to read my signature:

5800x3d

Msi b450 gaming pro carbon ac

Newest bios i updated to was the latest so, 7B85v1H4(Beta version).

I hope one of you can help me figure this issue out. Thanks in advance.

Does it reach more? If not could be some temp limit enabled.

You can always rollback if youre on Beta, do that first and report back to us. Report this issue to MSI as well if you havent already.

I forgot to add that this was in games 😁 my bad. In cinebench it gets upwards to according to hwinfo 112 on total cpu powerusage and 110 ppt.

Yes in cinebench it reaches 76c. So still under the 80c threshold.

I guess I can try to go back a bios version, to see if that fixes it.

Rolling back drivers did not fix it. I'm currently on the newest one again as I thought reinstalling it may help but no. Also no help there. And nothing I change in the bios seem to make it have a proper effective clockspeed in game of 4450 that I had before.

so after some messing about, i went back a bios. changed some things in the bios, made sure both the amd overclocking tab and the overclocking tab itself displayed the same things, changed  ppt tdc edc to 100 70 100

reinstalled afterburner/riva and well it does display my cpu running at 4450 but adrenaline says no. its running at 3800-4100 and hwinfo also says no. its running at 3800-4100 so what do i believe now. xD

What do adrenaline and HWinfo show when running cinebench instead of a game? Because looking at that screenshot, you are maxing out your GPU so there would be no need for the CPU to run any faster.

That's the thing, they show the effective clock at 4450, when its 100% utilised in cpu benchmarks like cinebench. Same as adrenaline. Which makes it weird to me.

The gpu in that seen is indeed at nearly max. But.. its not nearly always the case. There are plenty of moments when the cpu is closed to 80/90% utilisation and the gpu at 80~ and even then the cpu isnt running at 4450 according to adrenaline and hwinfo but now with rivatuners overlay it says it is.
