I'm after a laptop suggestion, or models to look out for/avoid:

I do a fair bit of 3D scanning and CAD so 32gb of ram, a reasonably fast CPU and a discrete (40 series?) GPU are a must.

I am going to be doing a fair bit of travel with work and a lot of the time I will be lugging 2 laptops so thin and light would also be really useful!

I don't really have a fixed budget but the more change I get from £2k the better. UK keyboard layout and USB-C charging would also be great.

I realise fast, thin and reasonably priced don't always go well together so any compromise is probably going to be on the price.

How portable is "portable"? Is a GPU-sized bonus container too much, considering that the extended work sessions might need an outlet and a brick of a charger?

I don't think I am keen on an external GPU, I suspect I would end up not taking it. I have seen a load of 4060/4070 mobile options that should give me sufficient horsepower. If I needed 4090 levels of power I would probably be more open to the idea.

I got a ROG Strix g17 recently with a 4070 (and AMD CPU)... Considering it fits in my old LENOVO 15 inch laptop bag I think it's fairly luggable...

However, one downside is definitely the battery life... I think if you get 3 hours out of it you can consider yourself lucky ~

Idk I got it for portability (literally) as I'll be traveling a lot this year, however I would never expect a fast laptop also having good battery life, seems like an oxymoron lol...

Well, if budget is of no consideration - Lenovo Legion 7 16 G9

Funny it's basically my ROG, down to the "you better use our drivers instead of nvidia ones!" (although mine is literally custom made by Asus - sketchy, but it works) 😄

Battery life isn't really a concern, the only time it'll get used unplugged is if I can't find a socket in the airport which isn't usually an issue. Looks like a good option.

Yeah, I figured just wanted to mention it.

Spotted a few Asus Tuf laptops that seem to fit the bill and aren't totally eye watering. Looking at the current UK prices of the ROG I was starting to wonder if I'd get murdered by my wife.

The A14 is quite appealing although more real estate and I assume a bit more thermal overhead for the same price is tempting.

Thanks for the suggestions, I ended up going with the Asus Tuf A14 in the end after a fair bit of googling. Seemed to do fairly well in the benchmarks for the price. I nearly went with the HP Omen on the basis of doing away with a proprietary power brick but it was more cash for less power.
