Hey LTT community,

I recently discovered the MikroTik RDS2216, and it's quite an intriguing piece of hardware. It's a hybrid device that combines high-speed networking with substantial storage capabilities. Here's a quick rundown of its specs:

- 20× U.2 NVMe (7 mm) drive bays
- 2× internal M.2 SATA slots
- 2× 100 G QSFP28 ports
- 4× 25 G SFP28 ports
- 4× 10 G SFP+ ports
- 2× 10 G Ethernet ports
- 16-core 2.0 GHz ARM CPU (AL73400)
- 32 GB DDR4 RAM
- RouterOS v7 (ROSE edition)
- Dual hot-swappable power supplies
- 10 cooling fans

It seems designed for enterprise environments, aiming to consolidate networking and storage into a single unit. The ability to run containers like MinIO, Nextcloud, and others directly on the device adds to its versatility.

Has anyone here actually used or tested one? I’m especially curious about:

- Performance with all 20 U.2 bays populated
- Compatibility issues with specific NVMe drives
- Noise levels and thermal performance
- How user-friendly the RouterOS ROSE edition is for managing both networking and storage
- Whether it makes sense in a homelab setting or is strictly enterprise-grade

Any insights, experiences, or resources you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
