headstart in inkscape: getting the first steps done - with this vector-based-programm

Go to solution Solved by LogicalDrm,

The tool you have selected in that image is select. The problem is that your image has been grouped as single object. You need to break it to parts first, then you can select individual objects. The tool right below it is to control nodes. If you use that, you can see all the nodes that object is made out of.

Inkscape Manual

Strictly speaking—and we'll try to be precise in this book—there is no selection tool in Inkscape, but only a selection mode, which is also the software's default operating state.

In selection mode, the following operations can be performed on paths and other objects, among others:

Selecting
Copying, duplicating, and cloning
Transforming (i.e., moving, scaling, rotating, shearing, mirroring, changing the stacking order)
Using clipping paths and masks
Boolean operations (union, subtraction, etc.)
Editing fill and stroke

Accessing Selection Mode

Accessing Selection Mode
To access selection mode, select S or F1 from the toolbar.

The mouse pointer appears as a white arrow in selection mode.

Easily switch back and forth from Selection mode to another mode or tool
Pressing the spacebar allows you to switch back and forth between the two most recently used modes or tools. (When using the Text tool, this only works if the tool is not currently in Text Entry mode.)

By quickly double-clicking on a shape object, such as an ellipse, you can access the corresponding tool (in this case, the Ellipse tool) directly from Selection mode.

look forward to hear from you

good day dear LogicalDrm 🙂

many thanks for your reply and the in - depth going explanation. Glad to hear from you. This is helping alot!!!

btw: i am really overwhelmed - what is possible here.!!

awesome!🤩

update @LogicalDrm

to make  sure that i am understanding you correct

you mean that my image is a group: In Inkscape, a graphic can be grouped. This means that several individual objects (such as paths, text, shapes) are combined into a single unit.

When i select this group, i always select the entire group, not individual parts.

is that correct? Did i get you right here!?

hmm -  afaik:  a solution could be: Ungroup: To edit individual parts, i ll have to  ungroup them. Here's how:

first step - i have to select the image.

Press Ctrl+Shift+G (that's "Ungroup") or

then i lll have to go to Object → Ungroup in the menu.

Edit nodes: The "Node Editor" (a tool below the Selection tool) allows us to access the node level. Nodes are the small points that form paths. With this tool, we can change details of the paths themselves—for example, deforming curves or moving lines.

well i will try out all these steps....

many thanks for all the great hints and tipps in the forum  - i love it-🙂
