I got an old 2012 MacBook Air from my local recycling center and i'm trying to get windows on it. but in boot manager its not able to create the bootable drive. does anyone know how to fix this or a different way to get windows onto it? I'm willing to try anything because this laptop is on the junk side. the iso file is for windows 10

You can just put in a Windows flash drive, hold Option on boot, wipe the drive and install Windows.

i'm going to try removing the drive with Mac OS and just have the windows flash drive plugged in.

If you can't it is very easy to put Linux on a MacBook.

If putting Windows on is the same as Linux then put a finger on the Options key and hold it down. Switch on the computer leaving your finger there until it boots. It should then see the iso file.

apple has a way to get windows on Mac using boot camp assistant, but it wouldn't work so now if trying to boot from a external drive into windows.

Have you checked this?

"If Boot Camp Assistant on your Intel-based Mac is experiencing problems, like stopping responding or failing to install Windows, you might need to update macOS or use a later edition of Windows 10, says Apple Support. Additionally, ensure you have a USB drive with enough space (16GB or more) for the Windows installation files, and that the disk is properly partitioned and not affected by Time Machine snapshots. If you are still encountering issues, you can try deleting and recreating the Bootcamp partition using Disk Utility, but back up your data first."

It all looks like a good reason not to install Windows on an Apple especially as Win10 is EOL.

I've only installed Linux and every time, no problems, very easy.
