Hey all,

TLDR; my uncle asked me to get pictures off his imac that does not boot but I cannot get the ssd to mount. Any help is appreciated!

Alright so the longer story. My uncle asked me to upgrade his storage in his old imac as well as the ram against my better judgment, because it was a 2011 model.

Not long after I did this for him, it would boot then go black. We both agreed due to its age to forget digging deeper, he just asked for his family pictures off of it.

I am using a sata to usb to plug that ssd into my macbook, which disc utility sees, but nothing I do will make it want to mount so I can assess it's files. The red flag to me is that within disc utility it says it says "..." under used storage and zero kb for available. Now is this just because it refuses to mount? Or is it likley dead? I could format it to check, but then all of his photos would be gone.
