Hello guys,
I'm pretty sure I have an engineering sample of the intel A770, my card has almost the same cooler as the one from the 2022 leaks of alchemist. My card's cooler seems to be from an earlier stage of development than the one from the leaks, since there is no intel branding on the cooler, it is missing the "circle" at the rear of the cooler shroud and  the fin array at the back (see pictures bellow). I will do some benchmark and test it on my rig, it's not the perfect test rig tho (old dell t3600 workstation).

The debug pins fell off because they broke due to what I assume is fatigue when I tried straightening them, I'll solder them back on later

(full images included in a comment (too big for the post) (not the best quality on earth but it's better than nothing))

did a quick ChatGPT backtrack and it appears to match what you thought, I will try to validate that info and keep you up to date.

[seems about right]

Small update on the card, it outputs a signal, but I only get a black screen, I was working fine yesterday at the shop where I bought it.

I got into the bios 💪

huge edit:

  1. Aaaaaand windows only gives me a black screen 🫠
  2. I have access to a way better test bench at school, I’ll test it there later/tomorrow, it kinda looks like a compatibility issue.
  3. I also used ddu (just in case someone is curious)
  4. The card “works fine” until windows boots (bios is accessible and I can see the flash screen), the only time I saw that ever happened was when we were using a projector and we fixed it by letting the projector cool down. I just thought of something, it would be really weird but I haven’t completely turned off my monitor in a long time and it was acting weird recently with other pcs/laptops.
  5. I got it to display the win11 installer

Have you thought about either editing your post or waiting until you finish testing rather than having so many mini status updates? This is making my head spin. 😉

Ngl, all of this is just a “printed version” of what happened in my brain, I’ll clear things up.

Small update: the card isn’t stable for obvious reasons, I’ll try my best but I don’t know if I have the skills or the pc to make it work. And to be clear, my goal was never to game on it, but to document it. I’ll try to get a result on a way higher specked out pc than mine and as a last resort, I’ll try on Linux tomorrow, I’m quite out of ideas, if anyone has any idea on what I should try, please let me know.

I’m gonna be honest with y’all, I don’t think I’ll be able to pull it off, and either way, if I get working or if don’t get it working I’ll let you know, if I don’t manage to get it working and I don’t want to risk breaking the card trying to do so, I’m serious, if an lmg employee passes by and you think that you can do anything to make it work, I’m down to ship to lmg free of charge (I’m from Québec so it won’t be that expensive), I don’t want any money, I just want to let someone (well lmg) give it a try, you at least have the infrastructure and the skills required to potentially make it work, and especially have the right equipment to do document the card in a way better way than me.

I’m not giving up, I’m simply recognizing my lack of skills and I don’t want to break a piece of pc history.

ps: Even if I manage to get the card to work, I’m down to send it over if you want to have a look/go at it.

(Sorry for my bad English, as you can imagine, English isn't my first language, french is)

Another hint at the fact that it’s an engineering sample is gpu-z reporting a tdp of 190 watts instead of 225 watts

ngl that's really interesting

Yep, my t3600 can’t use the A770, but Frankie can use it

Since frankie is a bit sketchy (that pcie connector is not liking it), I have ordered new parts to make myself a real benchmark ( standard mobo, psu and test bench) I'm gonna try to do the benchmarks one at a time (one per day), to not force the mobo or the card's pcie connector until I receive all the parts, which should arrive by the end of may (she's getting upgraded \^o^/)

1/3

Funny thing, the build quality of the cooler is bad, like really bad (lots of gaps and the screws for the pcie bracket sticks out a ton).
