980M dying on me??

Hi friends.

I am an owner of Alienware 17 R3 with 6820HK and GTX 980M.

This issue happen maybe 2-3 times in whole life while using laptop and it happens while gaming.

Today it happened many times, so I could not play games at all.

I switched it off, waited for like 5 minutes and all perfectly normal 

I assume GPU is dying.

Is it worth to take it to local repair shop to replace the paste and clean the fans or too late.

Temps while gaming are "normal".

CPU hitting around 65 C , GPU 75 C, I think but will double check.

that's artifacting, you can try updating your gpu drivers but if that doesn't work then your gpu is most likely dying

artifacting is most commonly associated with gpu memory instability, you can try lowering the gpu memory clock/bumping up the core voltage (in case its a gpu core issue)

you may also be able to replace the gpu all-together ,if it's an mxm module (or maybe even upgrade it)

What settings should I put?

I am perfectly okay with it as long it will work normal, because I play older games.

im afraid i don't really know, but trial and error shouldnt hurt anything(start with -100 or sth on the memory and go from there)

So I used laptop yesterday for like 2 h gaming, no issues, which is odd.

Most of the time , laptop works okay.

These are max temps  but wih cooling pad below laptop, otherwise temps are lot higher.

How is possible?

Yesterday worked normal,as usual.

I asked local repair technician would replacing thermal paste help, he told me he is not sure, if that would be too late.

I mean if the GPU is dying, the way I see it, I would have constantly same issue.
