I have the Montech Air 903 Max, and whenever I play demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Monster Hunter Wilds, my PC sounds like a jet engine about to take off. When I chose this case for my build, I didn't think the fans would be this loud. To make things quieter, would it be better to buy quieter fans for the computer, or should I try setting a fan curve in the BIOS? If I were to purchase new fans, which ones would you recommend? I've never set a fan curve before, so I'm unsure how to do it or what settings would work best.

It's not that difficult. You'll just navigate to BIOS and find the fan curve option.

Then you just change the curve on each of the points so that at certain °C of temps the fans will respond with certain % of fan speed.

A question would be, what kind of temperatures your PC reaches during these games, because then we can either:

  • See if anything doesn't get too hot
  • Or, simply tune the fan curve in the way that doesn't force fans to run at 100% when the CPU for example gets very warm, but still within safe range of temps.

Since this is the free option, you might as well try this first. I personally wouldn't bother doing it in the BIOS, there is in-Windows software that can do this easier with more features. FanControl is usually the go-to, it's pretty easy to setup and there's a ton of guides on how to set it up. I personally just use the auto fan curve option, you tell it what temperatures you want it to hit and it will auto adjust the fan speed to maintain those, though it has a ton of extra features depending on how in depth you want to go.

That said, if it's the pitch of the fans that's the issue, or you can't drop the speed enough while keeping temps reasonable, you will probably have to swap out the fans. My recommendation is the Arctic P12, they're decent and really cheap ($35 for a 5 pack). There is the P12 Max as well, that's just an upgraded version of the same fan that can go to a higher speed. They used to be the same price, though that deal seems to have disappeared though, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend them.

Have you checked the system temps

I just ran the Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark 3 times in a row, and my CPU temps were in the 60-degree range for all three runs. I attached my HWInfo logging CSV if you want to look at it.

For reference, I am using an AMD Ryzen 7600X with a Thermalright Peerless Assassin. My GPU is the NVIDIA RTX 4060
