Virgin Network labelling my pc as wrong wifi

Got virgin internet, used to have bt plugged in through ethernet but the wifi shows up on speedtest.net as bt and the speed is absolutely atrocious, shows up as 'Network' when on ethernet and even connecting wirelessly the name shows up correctly but its still under a BT ip. tried contacting them but they gave wifi boosters even after telling them the issue, its just a huge hassle so was wondering if anyone has had the same or similar issues and knows a fix.

You are connected to your superhub wifi and not a neighbours bt public wifi hotspot? that explain the "bt ip" and slow speeds?

it does that whilst wired and wireless and its 100% my box

What speeds are you paying Virgin for? And what are the actual speeds you're seeing on your speed tests when plugged in over ethernet? Try unplugging your Virgin gateway for about an hour, then plug back in and test to see if things resolve to your liking.

 

It is not uncommon for speed test servers to identify you as being from one ISP when you're from another. ISPs can have public IP ranges for their clients that are "close" to one another which the speed test server has no knowledge about. Some ISPs also rent parts of the infrastructure from other ISPs, especially when one has more penetration into remote areas, and this might be interpreted by the speed test server as being from the major ISP.

 

On speedtest.net you have the ability to change the speed test server yourself. Your browser might be defaulting to BT's due to retained cookies. I'd choose the closest Virgin one and run the test from there. If your speeds are close to what you're paying for, I'd say you don't have to worry about the BT IP.

500mb but i get like 8mb on ethernet

I'd be pretty shocked if Virgin Media showed up as BT though.  I've never seen it misreport on the big UK ISPs personally.

The wireless is fine on SOME devices, even some phones show as connecting as BT, tried connecting to it directly and same issue
