Hey everyone,
I recently upgraded my CPU from an i7-12700K to an i9-14900K. As part of the upgrade, I updated my BIOS to the latest version that supports the 14th-gen chips. Since then, I haven't been able to get into the BIOS at all.

When I try to enter BIOS (spamming the Delete key like I always did), the screen just goes black and nothing happens. If I tap the power button, the system shuts off, and when I power it back on, it boots into Windows without any issues.

Here's what I’ve already done:

  • Updated Windows and GeForce drivers

  • Reflashed/updated BIOS to latest version

  • Reseated the CMOS battery

  • Did a fresh Windows install (Windows had crashed after the upgrade)

Everything else is working fine once I’m in Windows, but I still can’t access BIOS. I'm thinking I may need to reflash the BIOS again, but I wanted to check if anyone else has run into something like this or has other ideas before I go that route.

Yeah reflash the bios

Figured as much. Thank you for the reinsurance. Any idea why that would happen even though the BIOS update had been out for around 4 months.

Well my MB does not have a BIOS flash button to update the BIOS. Also the MSI app is not detecting I need a update for the BIOS because i have the newest one. I have the BIOS version downloaded on my computer as well to see if MSI needed that as a way to update BIOS.

Have you tried this method:

Quote

Step 1. Access your Windows settings

Navigate to your Windows start menu and select “Settings” located on the left panel. You can also access your Windows setting by using Windows shortcut keys Windows + I.

Step 2. Select “Update & security”

Within this window, you may need to scroll down to find the “Update & security” button.

Step 3. Select “Recovery"

Step 4. Click “Restart now”

Under “Advanced startup” you will see a “Restart now” button that allows you to reboot your PC for configuration or restoration.

After your PC boots back up, you will be met with a special menu that gives you the option to “Use a device,” “Continue,” “Turn off your PC,” or “Troubleshoot.”

Step 5. Select “Troubleshoot”

Within this window, select “Advanced options” then select “UEFI Firmware Settings.” This will allow you to enter BIOS on your Windows 10 PC.

Step 6. Confirm your restart

If your PC is running Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, these methods will also work for your older operating system.

Im guessing you meant this?

When doing the Method #2: Use Windows 10’s start menu, It booted up in "special menu" the screen flashed for a second then was normal, I clicked trouble shoot and the screen flashed, i hit advance option and the screen when black and didn't come back on till i hard turned off the computer and rebooted it, same as when trying to get into BIOS with delete key.

I also uncheck fast boot up and still didn't work.

Indeed. Any recommendations on reinstalling the BIOS?

If you can flash it, then that's a good shot, though if it's the same version it might not help. But only one way to find out.

Not recommended to use MSI Center, but what does the MSI center say when you try?

This is the only update MSI center is trying to push. I have the BIOS version download on my computer to see if that would assist the MSI center. Im guessing its because i have the latest BIOS already installed for this MB

This happened to me once, got around it by switching from DP to HDMI. 🤷‍♂️
