Sure you can buy an AIO cooler, or maybe a Noctua Air Cooler, or maybe you are a Cooler Master guy, I don't judge. Maybe you could use LN2 for maximum overclocking, or maybe you're only thinking in one dimension. We put a cooler on the back of the motherboard to see if it is the solution no one is talking about.

How did you guys not think about putting thermal paste between the CPU and the socket? The surface area of the motherboards pins alone is not enough to transfer the CPU heat effectively to the back of the motherboard. You can fill the entire socket with thermal paste and the CPU will still work fine. 

Also, I would've considered using thermal putty on the back instead thermal pad.

hey @AdamFromLTT there's actually a product out there (not sure about supply) that does THIS STUFF exactly. It might require going back to LGA 775 (but it's possible it works with AM3 and maybe even AM5)

One other possibility... thermal pad around the backplate and then just add in an inexpensive set of heatsinks that are relatively thin.
