Built my new PC but now just realised how expensive Windows 11 is - Do I really need it?

Apart from having an annoying watermark and less customisation options is they any real downside to not buying Windows 11 Home for a gaming PC.

 

I know could buy a CDkey for much cheaper but I just don't trust legitimacy of those websites and where they source those keys. If they is a legit one maybe I will compromise if the price is less than $80 AU. Although I doubt that too good to be true is true.

 

I've already spent quite a bit on my budget PC and I'd rather buy more games than buy windows 11. But I guess it is a one-time purchase, so how worth it is it.

No downside.  Multiple of my machines are using unactivated Windows.

 

You can use Themes as well.  Or other 3rd party apps to hide the watermark.

Last 15 years haven't spent more than $30 for OS with no problems.

Not really. My most recent 9800X3D build is on an unactivated Win 11 Pro and seems to be working.

 

The only major irritations (apart from the water mark) I have are with the desktop icons part of the settings being inaccessible without a cmd command and I also think the Windows Sounds settings are also harder to access so if you need to setup your Dolby 5.1 or Atmos. I'm sure there are more settings that are harder to access but I would assume a relatively easy to find cmd command will bypass that.
