Failure to POST in XMP 1/2 since upgrading to a 5090

Hi all,

 

I hope you're all well and enjoying the long weekend

 

I recently upgraded to a 5090 STRIX and also upgraded my PSU from a 1000W to a ASUS Loki 1200W.

 

Since doing so, my computer is stuck in a POST loop before starting in BIOS safe mode if I try either XMP profiles and I can only manage to get it to boot if I lower my RAM to 4000mhz.

 

I have cleared CMOS and checked the BIOS is up to date but no luck. I haven't yet tried booting XMP with only one stick as yet as if it works, I'll be forced to either choose between 32GB at 5200MHZ or 64GB at 4000 (or buy new RAM which given the cost of the 5090, I'd rather avoid).

 

Specs are:

 

Z790 STRIX E

i9 14900k

ASUS TUF 5090 

64GB Corsair dominator 5200mhz DDR 5 (on ASUS QVL)

1 x gen 5 Firecuda 2tb m2 (master)

1 x gen 4 Crucial t500 2tb m2 (secondary)

1200W ASUS Loki PSU

360 Ryuo 3 360 AIO

 

I don't honestly know enough about RAM to know if they'd be a noticeable difference between running at 4000 vs 5200 but I am on a 32inch Samsung Odyssey G8 240mhz monitor if that helps anyone say if it would.

Have you tried forcing the PCI-E gen to 4 instead of 5?

 

In theory, you could try just using JEDEC timings instead of enabling XMP, since 5200 has those available. Not sure if your memory would require a higher DRAM voltage (than the stock, 1.1v) when operating at 5200 with JEDEC timings.

Thanks so much for the reply.

 

I have tried forcing gen 4 but no effect unfortunately.

 

JEDEC is a new one for me so I googled it and managed to get the RAM up to 4400 so I think I am going to admit defeat as Google suggests I will not see noticeable difference between 5200 vs 4400 in gaming.

 

I will consider new ram in a few weeks when the wife has forgiven me for the 5090!
