GPU's with a 0db silent mode

How important is it for you, when you buy a GPU, that is has a 0db silent mode option, so it can turn off the fans completely at low temps, eliminating noise from the GPU fans completely?

 

I know that I'll definately want this when I upgrade my GPU eventually

Not at all noise wise. The fans at the min speed at basically silent on almost every gpu I've used semi recently.

 

Lifespan wise you can make an argument that it keeps hours down on the fans, but also put a lot more on/off cycles on the fnas. Either way GPUs seems to be generally replaced before they have any hardware issues.

Since every GPU I've run in my main system has been custom water cooled, basically zero. 

 

That said, I also tend to buy higher end cards, and pretty much anything -70 tier Nvidia equivalent and up has it nowadays, I can count on one hand the number of cards I've run that haven't had that feature. It's never something I shop for, but it's always something I end up with.

For me, its mandatory. 

I suffer from hyperacusis and misophonia so low noise at idle is crucial.

That being said, I had a Palit RTX 2080 Super Gamerock that had 30% fan speed even on idle and it was not audible.

 

Most modern GPU's have this feature though.

Mine is 0db by default, but I use software to run them on a curve so they spin all the time. My systems run 24/7 and only power down for maintenance.

If noise is a bother, then

• Pick a more power efficient GPU
• Pick a model that has larger heatsink and larger fans
• Undervolt the GPU
• Get a spacious case with good airflow
• Modify the fan curve so that it only spins as fast as it needs to

Even when the GPU fans are off, I can still hear the case and AIO fans, and under load there's coil whine. GPU fans will likely be the least of your problems

Honestly do not care, only times when I'm putting enough load for the fans to kick up to a level audible enough to annoy me is when folding. The Noise floor with non-central AC and Neighbors in an older apartment building is in the neighborhood of 35-40db. Most fans won't exceed that, so a 0db mode isn't particularly important to me. 

Quietest I've ever been able to measure was 27db at like 3am on a Tuesday.

Been a thing on GPU's I've bought for as long as I can remember. Frankly a few hundred RPM and 0RPM both make no audible noise to me so I don't really care.

Thanks for all the responses. I asked cause my RTX 3060 ASUS Phoenix GPU won’t go lower than 30% fan speed, which is 1600RPM, and pretty audible, especially next to my M4 Mac Mini, which is silent at 1000RPM, when not under load, so would love to be ab,e to filter this when buying GPU’s on online webshops, selecting a “silent mode” filter in the GPU category, also cause many people don’t have cases big eonugh for a 3 fan GPU, so if you can get a GPU design/variant of the model you want, with this feature, that only has 2, or even 1 fan, that would be so much easier being able to filter out all the GPU’s without this feature, instead of having to look up and read reviews for every single GPU.

I don't care. My last 3 GPUs had 0db mode and I always manually tune it to be at least at 15% which I cannot hear anyway but I get better temps and less ramp up and ramp down noise.

Super important I would never want a GPU without this basic feature...

 

It's not just noise but also longevity, and I definitely wouldn't want my GPU sucking in dust all the time.

I set it to only start at like 60c (set it to 55c, but in reality the fans really kick in between 55 and 61c...)... so the fans basically never spin outside of a game (or video encoding) 

 

You do need good case cooling otherwise tho,  because if you don't the card will just keep getting hotter even while idling and the fans will randomly start spinning to cool it down

mind that RPM is based on hotspot temp on my GPU

Zero spin at idle is less important to me compared to very quiet when under load. I mostly use my pc for gaming, so I want one I can't really hear when going full load, also in respect to my wife who is usually in the same room as me.

Case also can make a big difference, a Be Quiet! Base500 is the most quiet case I’ve ever had. Definitely absorbs most internal noise.
