Hello everyone,
I am here to seek guidance from knowledgeable people in the industry once again. I'm very happy with my PC purchase (except the GPU driver issues, lol) - but hey, it works after a few resets.

I need a nice monitor. I played a game on my TV, switched back to my PC, and it honestly scared me how bad the difference was. I feel like my monitor is very outdated now. I swear people even kill me faster in games because of the refresh rate. I'm quite decent at gaming, and sometimes it just feels like my monitor is getting me killed more often than the players themselves. Call me crazy if you want, but I'm sure it's not just me.

I mainly play open-world games, RPGs, and single-player titles these days, but I do occasionally hop onto multiplayer FPS games, the older i get the less fun it is.
My current monitor is around 8-9 years old, so I'm really just looking for something modern.

Budget: £300-400 (maybe £500 if it's a really good deal - bit scary though, not sure what's good these days!)
Primary Use: Gaming
Preferred Resolution: Probably 1440p or 4K? I'm not an expert, that's why I'm asking here.
Desired Refresh Rate: 144Hz+ (60Hz feels problematic)
Panel Type Preference: OLED would be amazing, but probably out of budget - so anything you recommend is fine.
Adaptive Sync: AI says free sync cuz of amd but i have no clue
Additional Features: Maybe HDR? It works beatifully on my budget TV, especially in star wars, made it so much prettier. im not aware of all the modern features so if hdr is bad compared to something else please let me know , Not fussed about speakers, USB hubs, etc.

Location: UK
Size: 27" ideally (to match my primary monitor) or more not a requirement.

PC Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (8 cores, 16 threads)

  • Motherboard: MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI

  • RAM: 32 GB

  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX

  • Storage: 2TB WD Black SN850X NVMe SSD

  • OS: Windows 11 Home

Thank you so so so much in advance for any help or advice! feel free to ask me anything, i am absolutly clueless about it all so sorry if i missed anything

It probably doesn't really get any better from this, OLED that's 360Hz is insane territory.

For gaming and overall nice colors it's more than good. Response time and motion clarity that sends you to asylum.

And overall great if you don't mind the few OLED downsides, that may or may not affect you too much if at all.

You can get a decent LCD or OLED if you see it on sale especially if you want extra visual quality and HDR too. I have same PC and I got one, really for higher end PC for sure worth it.

You will have to check some reviews, especially for LCD monitors. You can check Monitors Unboxed on YT they have vids on which are good and best for each type of display and price category. Some just don't comply well with refresh rate so are more blurry, some have bad color calibration and such.

I was hoping to bump this topic for more opinions, the £500 is a lot of money at the end of the day and not a lot of people say anything about it, anyone has any other opinions with well known products? i would also prefer something in the middle 300-400, 500 is like a good deal price max.

  • 2 weeks later...

@SorryBella Hi, yeah i get that ahahaa, thanks for the reply, not many suggestions and the one i did get was a bit expensive and i did not really see any reviews, just want to clarify it does not have to be OLED, especially with the high price point and lack of reliability. I literally just want all these nice games like expedition 33 and oblivion, be seen as they should be, a many years old £100 is just meh. thank you!
