Created my first ever build - what do you think?

Go to solution Solved by Millios,

I did a lil tinkering and got you down by about 40 AUD while doing some upgrading/sidegrading

Aaaaaand while at it I made I made you an alternative that is slightly more expensive but will perfrom better and if you need to upgrade it allows you to do so with much less money required

As your question about putting it together, watch a few guides and youll be mostly fine

Thinking of upgrading from my PS4 Pro to a PC. I'm looking for a good 1440p setup for gaming (the latest games: Marvel Rivals, Elden Ring, Black Myth Wukong, Guilty Gear Strive, Tekken 8, etc…) and maybe some light side coding. I care little about appearance and want the absolute best value for money and best raw performance I can get at my price point of $1800 AUS. I'm also planning to build it myself, but I don't have much knowledge about PCs, so I just put some parts together that fit my budget and had good ratings.

I did some research, and the 6800 XT performs well compared to other cards, especially when looking at Zach's Tech Turf GPU comparisons and PassMark's GPU ratings. I found it for a good price too at $650 AUD (the 7800 XT is $750 but performs similarly), while most other GPUs in this range are way more expensive in Australia. Nvidia prices are absurd — why is everything past a 30/40 60 $1000+?

Anyway, here’s the build I put together, including the monitor. I already have peripherals.

In Australia, I can get these parts for around $1550 from Scorptec, and the monitor is $250, so that’s $1800 AUS (or around $1150 USD or $1600 Canadian dollars) altogether.  I've looked at secondhand parts but haven't found that many appealing deals, so I think I'm better off buying it new because it's safer than saving minimal money. I haven't ordered anything yet tho.

Note: It says XFX MERC, but I got the XFX SWFT model.

CPU | Intel Core i5-12400F 2.5 GHz 6-Core Processor
CPU Cooler | Thermalright Assassin X 120 Refined SE CPU Cooler (it incorrectly says the ARGB version on partpicker)
Motherboard | GIGABYTE B760 DS3H AX ATX LGA1700 (One I was looking at has Wifi not sure if it says that on the pcpartpicker list)
Memory | Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30
Storage | Crucial P3 Plus 1 TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD
Video Card | XFX Speedster SWFT 319 CORE Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB
Case | Montech AIR 903 MAX ATX Mid Tower White
Power Supply | Corsair RM750e (2023) 750W 80+ Gold Fully Modular
Monitor | MSI MAG 275QF 27" 2560x1440 180Hz

Another thing — how would I go about piecing these parts together? Is it particularly difficult, or will some YouTube tutorials and reading instruction manuals do the trick? Also, are these parts good value for money? Again, I haven't really looked at or touched a PC in my life, as my household has all Apple iMacs and MacBooks or whatnot.

I think the Micro-ATX case is a bit small for GPU it only just fits the 360mm threshold maybe it's fine tho. Probably look at other cases maybe. Also the reason I got RM750e because it was 30 dollars off so it's $149 right now.

In the top right of PCPartPicker you can select Australia and it will show you prices and availability for Australian stores, Scorptec is included as a retailer on PCPartPicker as well.

LTT has some build guide videos that goes through each step of assembling a PC. It has timestamps if you need to jump to certain sections.

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/RyKbrM Here’s a build, for pure gaming performance AMD is on top. I went with am4 for the build which is last gen but still relevant.

The card is 340mm and the max the case allows is 360mm

Its more than fine

You might wanna switch the PSU as the RMe have fan noise issues

How big is the performance difference from LGA1700 to the AM5 setup. I know it's probably worth it for future-proofing but if I didn't want future-proofing how does LGA1700 hold up for saving money.

LGA-1700 is fine.

Its fine, its weaker objectively but fine

But for about 100 bucks to be able to upgrade the system that much more easily is just more worth it imo and if you wanna lessen the difference then just grab a 7500f which is the same as a 7600 (chip I suggested) but cheaper cause it doesnt have an iGPU

at the end of it all its your choice and your machine
