I updated my graphics driver today because my game required it (space marine2) and now my PC will randomly drop my monitor and show a red light over my 8pin gpu power. I tried another DP cable and tried my onboard graphics but the monitor won't come back. My only solution is to shut down, pull the power cable from the wall, wait 5 min for reserve power to drain, then power back on. After doing this, the red light disappears and my monitor comes back. Then I try to launch my game, but get an error my driver is not installed. I click to reinstall, and it shows as "repair". I only does this when I launch the game, otherwise every works fine otherwise. WTF is going on?! Is it my power supply or GPU?

Change to separate 8pin cables, if already using separate 8pins then try another PSU.
Red light usually means insufficient power or dirty power.

Swap the 8 pin power cable from your psu like @Tech Reprise said. DDU your drivers and then reinstall them.

That seemed to have worked. Thank you so much, it was driving me up the wall.

Not sure why it all of a sudden decided not have enough power after 2 years. I will continue to monitor it over the next couple days. Thanks again.

Could be the psu going bad with age.

Can be anything like a weaker PSU or the connectors oxidising from age. Oxidisation and aging of the cable is the most likely culprit.
