Western Digital Black AN1500 2 TB PCIe NVME - 77% discount in certain parts of EU

Not sure if this is a typo or something, but 436€ PCIe 8x NVME costs 100€ in countries like Germany, Austria and Italy:

On Sandisk website:

Western Digital Black AN1500 2 TB PCIe NVME sounds like a solid mid-range+ NVME choice for 100€ at 2TB size, 2TB is the only size available.

The performance of this NVME is actually better in some non-gaming workstation applications that require very fast writes for extended periods of time.

Only downside is the interface, the efficiency isn't that great and it uses 8 PCIe lanes, unlike regular NVMEs that only use 4.

Does come with 5 year warranty apparently.

Would be ideal for 3.0 gen systems with spare lanes, such as X299, or even X99.

Not available in UK that I can find. Given their age, I wonder if they have a bunch in a EU warehouse somewhere and just want to clear them out.

Edit: looking at the pics at TechPowerUp it's two SN730 drives inside behind some PCIe switch of some sort I guess. If you did have X299 you could just get separate drives and bifurcate for same effect, so maybe a bit less interesting after all.

Not necessarily, modern systems aren't trash:

I haven't looked for one, but I don't believe there are any consumer boards with x8 electrical slots off chipset. So the only way you could get x8 is off CPU, basically taking half from the GPU for those mobos that still offer that possibility.

If you're going to run x4, you might as well get a more modern SSD.

What if all 3 M.2 slots are filled?

I'm not trying to solve every possible edge case out there. I'm mainly saying, if you don't have a spare x8 slot, which MOST people wont, then a conventional x4 may be a better choice. Even in the scenario you paint, if a mobo has 3 M.2 and they're all in use, then if you have a space PCIe slot, you can put something in there. It doesn't have to be the AN1500 though. Adapters like below are widely available and cheap. Use any M.2 you like. Maybe the AN1500 has some cost and/or performance benefit even if not on x8, again up to a potential buyer to decide.

Gigabytes/s of write speed, that doesn't throttle after 50-100GB+

Almost perfect workstation SSD.
