Hello,

System: 5950X, 850W PSU

Just bought a used 3080, upgraded from 3060 ti. And I still have 24 hours to return in if I decide to.

Anyway, I find some problems:

1. Bios resolution keeps under the normal resolution, even after CMOS reset, and DDU.

2. It would crash into black screen on Cinebench test

Other things like Superposition Benchmark and 3D mark were working fine except Cinebench. And sometimes it crashes like 3 second after the benchmark starts.

I attached a picture of HWInfo underload.

Is it normal for the hotspot to go to 107'C?

And is it normal fot it to go to 288W? Because on google it should actually go to 300-400W

You know, I personally have some thoughts of it, either it's a faulty GPU or Driver issue or Thermal issue that it crashes when it gets hot.

If it's GPU faulty, I'll return the good.

If it's Thermal or software, I'll keep it.

Tonight, I will try to test Cinebench while undeclocking it, limiting temp, and probably undervolt with Afterburner to see new information.

Please share your insight, thank you so much.

Hotspot is too hot. 288W is normal or even a bit low though, perhaps it's thermal throttling.

If possible, return it.

Well, it's possible... But if it is thermal problem, I'm going to keep it and replace the thermal pad and paste...

Up to you, just that the other temps are fine, not sure if repasting will relieve hotspot overheating.

I edit my posts more often than not

Do you have an insight of that hotspot? would thermal pad of the vrams do?

This isn't something that any of us can give insight on over the internet, unfortunately we can only see that high hot spot and say "hey that's an issue". Repasting etc MIGHT fix it, but there is no real way to know unless you physically try

Well, thank you for your respond.

But, so far I found this and I'm sharing for maybe anybody that experience the same issue. I will try it and will give an answer to this thread asap.

This maybe due to driver issue

Yes, that's what i'm wondering about, but today I'll try to underclock everything and see if the problems occur.

I am using a 3080 as well and is now facing black screen issue as well.

566.36 was working before but seems recent Windows 11 update (since last Friday) makes it start black screening again. I have been DDU to 566.36 multiple times and still get black screen when running FurMark or games for a while.

Depends from GPU to GPU, this one might need re-paste, because usually the max is 105C and if it's going over, that can be a problem.

Hotspot is for the chip, but you can replace the pads too.

Usually does, unless the paste already makes plenty of contact and transfers heat well.

How much did you pay for it? If it was a good deal, then you can bother with repasting

I like this guy.

240 USD. Is that a good deal?

killer deal actually, was the person getting rid of the GPU because they got better one?

Not likely to be driver issue, but not unlikely either. 30 series -> 30 series isn't that big of a jump

OMG I'm so happy, I just fixed it! It was thermal issue all along!!! Agatha All Along!! I just replaced the thermal paste using a new one, Kryonaut. And, it's boosting up to 2100 MHz with 70'C average! Yeay. The fan is so quiet now, before it was like a drone show here.

This is the result before

Imma respond to your messages:

I'm really glad that it's a killer deal, cause in the market it's still around 300-400 USD. And I have no Idea why the seller sold this honestly. I just found it and he showed that the benchmark was low, but he seems to be out of clues anyway. He has 720p monitor, and old CPU. So, at that moment he couldn't even give me a reason why his benchmark score was low. So, since the marketplace has a 3 days return warranty, I took the chance!

It's actually a big jump for me, Idk if my old 3060 Ti with dual fan needed a thermal replacement or not but the cinebench score is over 50% faster than my old one even tho it keeps crashing in the middle.

Screenshot2025-04-14204212.png.ea9eb4a6e3b494bfb575dcd2707d0a66.png

I'm still having an issue tho with the BIOS resolution. I'm guessing it's the VBIOS? Do you have any idea?

And the cinebench keeps crashing mid testing, but this time it crashes to desktop instead of black screen.

Thanks for responding tho!

It likely will. I had my RTX 2060 hit really high hotspot temps and high general temps too. I applied some fresh paste and bam, temperatures were under control again

EDIT:

Just saw that OP posted that they repasted it and it worked, proving my point :). If your hotspot is really high on an old card, it's likely that the TIM has degraded over the years and should be replaced for optimal performance

If you buy an Asus RTX 3080 or 3090 , repasting and repadding is basically a must. 2 years ago almost all of the Asus RTX 3080s and 3090s i've built with have terribly offset thermal pads. Something like 40% of the chips WEREN'T covered by the pads, which not only made the memory run hot, but prevented the GPU die from having a solid ocntact, leading to such massive differences. Asus RTX 3000 GPUs are amongst, if not THE WORST built GPUs on the market.

Could be normal, unless it wasn't like that before, if it's your only "issue" then there's no issue.
