re /s "\\?\ Wiped my desktop not the specified folder

I had a file that wouldn't delete as Windows claimed that it wasn't in that location.  As a final effort I used the command prompt re /s "\\?\ to delete the file and specified that was the only file to delete.  But now my whole desktop is wiped.  I didn't have File Restore or One Drive turned on and the Recycle Bin doesn't have any of the missing files in it.  Any idea where these files are or if they're gone forever?
