The 2025 Pentathlon will be the first event eligible for LTT BOINC event badges.

Requirements:
Earn BOINC credits for active projects for at least 12 days during the event.
You must crunch for Team LTT.

Please follow this thread to keep up to date!

Please read the whole of this post before asking any questions and use the link provided at the end for help and support!

About the Pentathlon

In this event, participants will compete for Team LTT against other BOINC teams in five distributed computing projects. The specific projects will be announced as soon as they are selected for the BOINC Pentathlon. This will be the seventh year of LTT in the Pentathlon. Big thanks to @leadeater and @Ithanul who have previously lead team LTT in this event.

NEW THIS YEAR - Daily Stats and Folding@Home!

During this event we will be keeping track of both BOINC and Folding@Home credits if you have signed up!

Although only BOINC credits help us to compete in the Pent, we "folded" in both teams to encourage participation. So please come join the BOINC team in the fun!

Overall rankings will be determined by calculating each participant's percentage of the total event points earned within each project, then averaging these percentages across all six projects (including folding). This balanced scoring system rewards agility and versatility, so participants are encouraged to perform consistently across all selected projects. Big thanks to everyone who helped test the stat collection in the sprint earlier this year. This will be my first Pentathlon as BOINC team leader. I'm looking forward to seeing team LTT's power!

What is BOINC & Getting Started

Boinc is a distributed computing software that uses your unused processing power to do calculations in the name of science and progress! Using Boinc you can contribute to projects for medical science, physics, mathematics, and nature. The combined computing power of thousands of users gives scientists a supercomputer to run experiments on!

Please follow the guide below to help with set-up and troubleshooting. The 10-15 minute read is worthwhile. If you need any help feel free to post here.

Strategy

@GOTSpectrum and I will be writing daily blogs with a recap of top performing crunchers on our team. The blog will also act as our place to communicate the strategy to best use our resources to win!

So, I don't know how I managed to do this, but I have two CPIDs, one for Numbersfields, and one for the remaining projects.

Should I put both in the form?

Also, probably the worst time for my azure sub to expire…

Common build advice: 1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

It is doing very well. Up until wednesday, it had been folding almost perpetually since it arrived without incident. However, thanks to the combination of Linux Mint and my KVM*, I've taken it offline for a few days while I await a pair of EDID cloners from Level1Techs (bought them as a present to myself for getting my Diamond badge).

Apparently Mint isn't a fan of going long periods of time without a monitor connected. It will keep folding without a monitor, but after 24-48 hours, or so, it just won't display anything unless you restart the system.

*I should have bought the HDMI version

Damn software letting us down once again lmfao!

Glad to hear it's being put to good use, I've recently given away some other hardware to people IRL. Mostly for peoples kids PCs when they can't afford upgrades.

Submit the one with all of the projects except NumberFields.

Attach NumberFields and some of the other projects on the same system. Let them all run for a day or two and they will go under your main CPID.

CPIDs are mostly attached to the email you used to register on projects. You need to use the same email address on all the projects. Then make sure at least one host has all (or most) of all the projects attached to it. This is one thing that makes NCI projects so good. Such as WuProp that tracks the hours you run different apps. Attach that project to all your hosts while you're crunching on projects and use the same email across all your logins and you'll never have this issue.
