I am finally available to set up this post, but here goes.

I have been doing composition in college this semester, and I noticed that I can't highlight multiple lines of text on my desktop computer. I have tried reinstalling Word on my desktop to no avail.  It happens indiscriminately to every document I open. I have tried looking this problem up but to no avail. I do not have this problem on my laptop.

If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, I am all ears.

Well, a little bit of context and procedures would be helpful.

Can you tell us how to select your lines for a starter ?

Thanks

Just click and drag over the area

It happened to me more than once. This usually happen when the mouse button is defective.

As a test, try selecting text using only the keyboard and see if you can select more than one line.

Works on only one line like before but instantly no longer works when it is time to go one line up or down like with on my mouse.

Really strange indeed.

I found this thread dating a while back. Maybe it can help you too.

The solution that worked for them there was enabling the latest insider build, from 2017 and they were on Mac. I am on Windows and my pc was built in 2023.

Sorry but I don't know what to do short of reinstalling Office and maybe Windows to fix the issue.

You tried reaching for Microsoft's support themselves ?
