Like the title says trying to figure the best way to start, I am currently storing my movie backups on external drives (4TB and 5TB) and a few other USBs But I was hoping for ideas for how to cheaply build a server that can plex for 3-5 people while still able to Host a Modded Minecraft(Skyblock)average users 3-6 to be running 24/7 . I am hoping to keep the budget within 200ish. I've heard that need a graphics for the plex to transcode? Sorry for noob, just no real idea where to start but willing to learn. The chipsets on computers like i5 or i7/ no idea how to tell then gen without googling them, like said noob. Hoping to be able to hit ebay/marketplace and minor upgrades(Ram) to get functioning then upgrade later if need. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Any used office system that has an Intel CPU with quicksync (assuming you have the plex pass) will work well.

I would look for something with 6+ cores, 16GB of memory should do fine.

so, can you scrape up a PC for 200ish bucks?
Sure.  Won't be amazing, but you totally could.

but you won't be buying any useful storage in that budget.

Check FB Marketplace, look for an i7 8700 or some Ryzen 5 2600 / 3600 tier systems.

If you build intel, you can build it initially without a GPU, and add one later.

But storage will set you back hundreds on its own.  Buying HDDs smaller than 6-8TB is a mistake.
