What are the prices of the two cards in your region? That can make a difference.

Also, do you know which board partner that you are going to buy?

If you're a Linux user you should go AMD. Drivers are half the advantage Nvidia gets these days and that doesn't apply to your platform.

Go with AMD for Linux. NVIDIA and Linux don’t exactly have the best relationship.

MY PC:

Ryzen 9 3900X 12 Core PBO Enabled

ASUS RTX 4070 DUAL OC

Asus Prime x570 Pro Motherboard

Kingston Fury Beast 128GB RAM 4 Slots

Fractal Design Case

EVGA 80+ Gold 800W PSU

I agree, based on your criteria I'd go for the 9070 XT

I also hate the fact that the 50 series dropped 32 bit support, want to run an old game? hope your CPU can carry the load!

Cons of going with AMD:
* AI tooling support ( lack there of )
* Closer but still not the same RT performance

* FSR 3.1 / 4 support & backwards compatibility isn't where I'd like it to be

* Consumes more power

Pros:

* Supports 32 bit games

* currently drivers are more stable

* Non 12vHP connector options
* Best bang for the buck

* Solid card, good 1% lows ( the AIB's made them feel hefty and premium )

* Plays much nicer with Linux than Nvidia
* FSR 4 looks really good
* Expected to age well ( though this can be said about the 5070 ti too )

I have a 9070 XT myself and am very happy with it so far, the Linux story and 32 bit support is what ended up pushing me this direction ( I plan on dual booting once kernel 6.14 becomes more mainstreamed )

They dropped support for 32 bit PhysX. So it's only an issue if you play 32 bit games that use PhysX. Physics are handled by the CPU in this case, not the rendering as such.

I agree that it isn't great, but it's not as bad as no longer rendering any 32 bit game on the GPU.

ROCm is coming up fast in terms of support, so this will be moot eventually or even now if OP got the chops to read on AMD documentation.

AMD is the winner here. The 5080 at 2100 isn't 3x faster than a 9070XT at 750ish.

Compared to nvidia, backwards compatibility is a bit better and they give driver updates for their older cards for longer. Did RTX 3xxx series get frame gen? My amd 6xxx series did get 2.1 and it's close to flawless (besides the customary wait till next frame 5-10ms delay you don't notice). sure my vega 56 got no in driver upscaling which sucked.

CPU: Ryzen 5500 GPU: RX 6800 RAM: DDR4 3200MHZ 48GB (2x8+2x16 GB)  MOBO: MSI B450-A PRO Display: 4k120hz with freesync premium.

I think you may have miss understood the bullet point -> "FSR 3.1 / 4 support & backwards compatibility isn't where I'd like it to be"

This is not referring to frame gen or drivers ( drivers being in the pro section for the AMD card ) but strictly FSR and its implementation in versions prior to 3.1. Before 3.1 it wasn't a simple dll file but rather had to be implemented at code level for each game, making both its adoption and maintenance a big problem for developers, meaning it will be that much harder for games that have fsr 3 and lower to get FSR 3.1 / 4 support. I wish that wasn't the case since I really like what they were able to bring to the table with FSR 4.

Again this is just a list of considerations I took into account when picking out which card I was going to go with, as I had no affiliation with one team or the other but rather wanted the best product fit for my case.

You mean after 3.1 it isn't a simple dll file anymore? becuase if befor eit wasn't and now it is, then devs can just drop the dll file to add 3.1 and 4 support.

Sadly it is not that simple, hence the main problem and backwards compatibility issues I mentioned. This chain topic is getting pretty far from OP's question, if you wish to discuss the differences of implementation it might be wise to open a separate thread to tackle that topic specifically. There are also many resources online ( Including AI ) that could help break it down.
