Hello fellas,

with my recent acquisition of a 9070XT(XFX quicksilver) i finally got to building my GF her Gaming Rig with most hardware coming out of my previous Setup.

Build turned out well but the EVGA 2070 Black is by far the loudest component while running Games. After almost 6 years of rather heavy use it might just be the Fan Bearings giving in, regardless im not really happy with it so i thought about Deshrouding.

Basic Idea is, get rid of the Plastic Shroud and slap 2 Thermaltake Toughfans on it. You know the drill.

I've never done this but feel confident enough to not have any issues doing so. I do have some questions though.

Mounting the fans i'll figure out. Either just ziptie em on or 3d print some "clip" that hooks onto the fan and heatsink. I also thought about putting a strip of rubber between where the fan case would touch the heatsink.
I also wanted to remove the, just for visuals, plastic/rubber back "plate" to allow for better blowthrough through the cooler overhang.

My main question is repasting and replacing the heatpads. Since this whole ordeal should be done in a couple hours at max i wanna prepare everything in advace. I have leftover Noctua NT-H2 from building the PC, is that just fine or are there other recommendations? For the Heatpads, i have no idea how thick they actually are, ive seen GN's teardown of the exact same Card but due to lack of knowledge idk how big they are. Can i just stack 1mm ones if a 2mm is needed or should they be a perfect fit? I'm open for any recommendations since nothing is bought yet pmuch. Thanks in advance.

Rest of her Build for those interested.:

Bequiet Purebase 501 Silent with an added Pure wings 3 in the front
Ryzen5 2600x with a Thermalright phantom spirit 120 SE. no OC. yet.

16GB Crucial Balistix 3200/16

Kingston NVE3 1TB

Seasonic Focus 650

measure thrice buy once. I wouldnt recommend it, itll just squish down.

If youre scared of mismatching thermal pads you can always go for thermal putty. Itll just be messier for the next guy who's going to refresh it.

As far as i know all NT-H line pumps out on bare dies, meaning that they lose viscosity over time and spreads out of the die and dries out. This means youll have to replace the paste more often and dont be surprised if performance goes from okay to straight 90+ the next day.

Dont stack thermal pads. Just buy some 1 and 2mm sheets or a mixed assorted bag. However you should just be able to use the current ones thermal pads only really may start going bad usually after a decade.

As for noise id just try a repaste first really. Could be that fixes all.

Else if you do deshroud make sure to duct your fans else well ripppp performance of the cooling.

Ok, just finished it. for now. All went well pmuch. Replaced the thermal paste with ptm7950 and the pads with arctic ones.

The Fans are ziptied on but i also took measurements to make a better mounting bracket. Will update eventually, maybe. I did make a super makeshift "shroud" thats basically a felt strip that goes around the Mounting Points of the old should to make some sort of chamber for the fans to build up some Static pressure.
Temps are maxing out at 63°C and the Fans are barely noticeable over the noise floor. Success.
