so my friend has this rig:

14700k

z790 max

4070ti

recently when my friend plays with me fortnite , the computer just shut down (itsn't BSOD)

so he called the store where he got this pc from and they told him that maybe he needs to change the settings on the menu of power options on the OS and maybe there is a need to replace the power button on the case (4000d)

after 2 days , now it happens again.

what could be the problem ?

thanks 🙂

What power supply does he have?
Never heard anything like what the store told him to do...

What were the temperatures?

Can he send the PC back for repairs / check? Still warranty on it?

Sounds like something is tripping the PSU protections.  Could be the GPU.

Can he use your GPU to see if he can replicate?

The 980 Ti draws almost the same amount of power as a 4070 Ti.

Worth trying.

I know this isn't relevant, but putting the 4070 TI's power draw in context like that makes it seem less outrageous. The PPW compared to a 980 Ti is off the rails.

Thats IPC and general performance improvements over the years 🙂

For basically the same wattage you get a massive improvement in performance.

The 980 Ti is a 250w card but can draw 260-265w when overclocked, the 4070 Ti is a 285w card stock.

Thats why the 5090 isn't really 'an improvement' over the 4090.  They just increased power draw and got some extra performance.

Its the same node after all, hopefully with the RTX 6000 on Rubin / TSMC 3nm node we can see some better performance per watt 🙂

Anyways, getting way off toptic here.
